A grievance has been filed on the pitiful and unsafe dock conditions at our terminal. The dock floor is ate up with huge cracks and large potholes. There is an unavoidable unused steel track that runs on 3 sides of the dock that will rattle your teeth when you drive over it, the forklifts are junk so they only add to the poor conditions. Management sees the beating the men take from the poor working conditions but everyone of them is too gutless to speak up. TM has failed to take accountability for the safety of his employees. Some of the senior men are so beat up from these conditions they can't even stand up straight once they've been on a fork for any length of time. The union promises to see that we have safe working conditions and it's time they do it.

good luck with that. nobody on either side gives a rats ass.

Minus15% gets you paid. For dock lights, you have to give up more. Add on concrete repairs, it's up to 20%. New forklifts or trucks, probably 30% giveback. Dont ask the price for actual ssfety. Im sure they'll tell you in 2019...

Man, I've hung around the forum too long!!!!

Remember " IF it costs money it's NOT a Safety Issue " and then the next step is to File a Work comp. claim from injury due to faulty equipment , many Driver's have done that at our old junk barn !

Since the new terminal manger took over locally, they have spent thousands in building improvements. All of the old drag line was removed and new concrete was poured. Yard includes new asphalt. And.....
all new HD video cameras have been installed.

Cameras??? Wow!!!! You mean they can actually now see on film all the stuff going on that they do nothing about!!!!

You say they've spent Thousands, they haven't spent anything here the yard is every bit as bad as the dock.

Won a grievance on this exact thing three years ago over the building and unsafe equipment. Now the Steward just needs to talk to the TM to get things fixed. They fix it at their own pace, but at least they fix it.

Plenty of $$$ at my barn for warning letters!

There's plenty of $$$ at my barn to pay lawyers to represent our management in a sexual harassment lawsuit from a former employee, that their going to lose.

It's a high priority to keep an eye on the "hourly help"! :duh:

Warning letters? That's a joke, right? You can't get fired here. Waste time, sleep, extra breaks, damage freight, and equipment, mouth off to customers, and management. It is rampant where I am....

You don't have to worry about getting a letter here if your one of TM's Rat buddies, it is a joke.

When's the last time any terminal has seen new forklifts? They've replace them here once in 40 years and that was to get rid of the old diesel forks.

Speaking of "Rats." Last Sept, our service man at night was ran over and killed at our fuel pumps, in the most brightly lit up spot in the yard.
The Rat who ran over him was off for 6 weeks. After returning, we found out no discipline was issued AND he received 6 weeks back pay. Not a single remorseful bone in his body.
Any other employee would have been terminated for gross negligence, and had to fight to get his job back, but not this one!

You don't have to worry about getting a letter here if your one of TM's Rat buddies, it is a joke.

I got a letter for not weighing freight. Hahaha. Verbal first warning. Wanted me to sign. Nope. Weight guy gave it to me. Not even a supervisor. But he said he management. That's the answer I got when I asked why my immediate supervisor wasn't giving the warning to me.
I said that's good to know.
It was thrown out.
