SAIA | DriveCam ... By Lytx

Runawaytrain is a P&D driver. He is in and out of the truck all of the time and has no idea what is like to have to spend several hours in the truck.

So by your thinking, city drivers are exempt from the camera findings? Maybe you are a linehaul and never did city driving and have little clue as to how often one gets set off during a pedal run. Saia or any other company didn't put these in, just to take a loss.

It's funny you mention lawsuits! A lot of companies have not gone with driver facing cams for that very reason. All video from truck cams can be reviewed in a lawsuit against saia or anyone else! Runaway train you sound like a driver who follows the rules, you ever have to scratch your nose when you drive? Hands wouldn't be at 10 and 2! Are you checking your mirrors every 5 to 8 seconds for 8 to 10 hours of driving? Highly unlikely! What do you think a lot of drivers are doing, no one is that rigid! The point being any good tort lawyer can exploit that video cam to there clients benefit and sue the pants off saia. That camera is extra ammo for a lawyer looking to sue the company
The phone records is all they need and they can easily get those. SAIA I'm sure weighed the pros and cons with their legal team and decided that DriveCam was their best option. They have access to attorneys that do this for a living. I don't think they concern themselves with some people second guessing them.

Surely you don't think I've never ran linehaul in my 44 years in LTL. I understand much more than you think and I'm not unsympathetic to linehauls issues with DriveCam. But nothing can be done about it. The decision has been made and we have no choice but to accept it or leave. That's really my whole point in all of this.

Look, I'm the only one on here that supports the companies decision to get DriveCam. I've been going it alone from day one. I've been beat up and kicked around by the best but nothing will change. I won't change my stance. Just as the other 100% on here won't change theirs. I'm standing alone and I'm just fine with that.

If all these people hating on the cameras, spent that time and energy communicating with corporate, something might get done to relax the rules a bit.

I can't speak for others on here, but I've been in or around multiple conversations with TM, DM, and Regional Safety regarding my issues. Left each conversation feeling like I was talking to an overseas call center. Very scripted answers and not willing to listen. Kind of like reading runways comments on here minus the name calling and bellittlement, and like it or leave attitude when he runs out of ways to defend his position.

They have dialed it back a little. Relaxed the backing without a seatbelt on private property and a few other things. But they are still very serious about the phone usage. You get one and then your done. I don't have a problem with the Smartphone. I just wait until I pull over. These young guys act as if the phone is part of their bodies like a arm or leg. They are addicted and can't keep their face out of it.

Train you don't have to be on a cell phone for the company to get sued! Saia has not crossed that bridge yet where the nanny cam gets used in a lawsuit agansit them! Remember anything you happen to do that is recorded will be used against you. A good tort lawyer can sue a ham sandwich!

Same here, with the same results.

Try this the next time you get into a retrofitted camera truck. Adjust your seat, strap on the belt, and reach for the manual activation button. I couldn't get any closer than about 6 inches and I am of average height with average arm length. Anybody tried to reach for the button in the freightliners?
We have lytx in our tractors but no camera facing driver (union rules)I like them but yeah it is a little difficult to activate the cam manually.

I was just thinking what if you have a semi life size picture of yourself driving day or night and hang it that picture from the storage compartment in your cab and have your music playing really loud would that suffice for those that have Driver facing cams?then you could pick your nose or whatever and they wouldn't see you..sounds like an ingenious idea.Escpecially for those of you planning to jump shio.brilliant

I don't have to worry about Driver facing cams but I do play my Mettallica and Ozzy real loud

Then if you don't trust the Bluetooth radios in your cab then bring your iPad connect to iheart radio and bring your jbl portable speaker and turn off company radio.brilliant

Renee out of Garland can run circles around any man we have. And she does it with the cameras and doesn't complain one bit. One of the best P&D drivers we have. I suppose women are more adaptable to positive change in safety. Check her out on Facebook.
