SAIA | DriveCam ... By Lytx

I knew you would eventually come after me. Perhaps I believe in what this company is trying to do. Heaven forbid they try to move forward with the new technology that is available today. I understand your reluctance to accept this since you were part of the Conway team for awhile and they used it as more of a disciplinary tool. The goal is to weed out bad habits and cut litigation cost. Habits many of us may not even know we have. It's not being used to fire people. It can be if you continue to do the same :::shit::: over and over. I'm not going to try and change your mind. You have made it clear what you think of DriveCam. You will quit before you get in one of those trucks. That's your right. I just think differently and hope that many come around. I have my opinion and you have yours and that's OK. But I will say this in closing. They are here to stay. In the next few years ever single major LTL company will have them. The upside is just to great. They will save millions in litigation and help save life's and I can't think of anything more positive than that. You will always have the skeptics that believe that big brother just wants to watch you. To babysit you. That will never change. So, I will drink the Kool-Aid. I guess it's a good thing my favorite flavor just happens to be red. Cherry.
I know of one Saia driver already that's been written up for distracted driving for taking a drink of soda while driving. That sure sounds like a disciplinary tool to me.

He probably just signed a coaching session form. No big deal for that type of violation. You are allowed several of those. It's the cell phone that will get you. Just lost an ole boy in Garland this week for the cell phone. He was laid off one day a couple of weeks ago for his handheld. Got caught again recently and that's it. You get one and then your done. It's all about severity and the cell phone is the worst offense. They don't play. Cell phones are illegal and he did it to himself. We know the rules and you either follow them or your history.

So you guys can't even talk on the phone with a headset

Nope, no Bluetooth of any kind allowed. They won't even let you talk on the CB. We had a guy get suspended for a day because he had the CB mic in his hand. Next time it happens, he's fired.

Now you know why we're offering a $15,000 sign on bonus. No decent person is willing to put up with this ridiculous crap.

And Train has no idea why everyone hates the drive-cam......Saia drivers have more supervision than Boy-Scout troop.
I'm trying to figure out how I got a Million Mile ring without a camera?

XPO survived the cameras and so will SAIA. XPO is the number 3 carrier in the U.S. ... Not too bad. SAIA is elevating the safety culture as they move into the next decade. The dock to driver guys will just understand the way things are. The old timers that can't adapt will cease to exist. This is about the future. SAIA will be the benchmark in Safety. Others will follow by banning Bluetooths in time. SAIA will take the hit in turnover. HR just needs to step up. SAIA will lead the way in safety even if it means building a completely different workforce consisting of younger and more adaptable individuals.

DriveCam is the way safety is done at SAIA. Accept it or leave. PLENTY of young Dock To Driver guys just waiting to take your place. The pay and benefits far outweigh the downside. I never even notice DriveCam anymore. I just do my job and follow the rules. When you do that you have nothing to worry about.

BUT XPO RELAXED THEIR RULES AND AT LEAST LET THEIR DRIVERS TALK ON THE CB AND STOPPED HARASSING THEM ABOUT EVERY NIT PICKING LITTLE THING. I DONT SEE THAT HAPPENING HERE ANYTIME SOON RAT !!!!!!

They have relaxed the rules a bit in regards to backing without your seatbelt on and a few other things. I will say some of the policies are a bit rigid but ultimately they are designed for the safety of us and the public. Will they relax them more is hard to say but if we continue to have turnover that is directly related to the cameras and that starts to cause service failures and losing accounts they may have to look at it. Those decisions are way above my pay grade. There is a fine line here and SAIA must find it. You can't compromise safety but at the same time you can't start losing customers either because you can't find drivers. HR needs to be straight up with new hires about these cameras. Why? Because in my mind it's better for them not to accept the job in the first place than for us to spend the money training them and watch them walk away once they realize the realities of the cameras. I have no problem with the cameras because I know how to work with them. I know my camera like the back of my hand. Each truck is different in regards to sensitivity. I always cover my ass. ALWAYS! This is SAIA's ballgame. You must play by their rules or risk the consequences. My hope is they will dial them back a little more as far as petty things like taking a drink. But things like stop signs and red lights and cell phone usage. HELL NO!! You break the rules. You lose your job.

Can't do anything but laugh anymore. I sit every night waiting for trailers that use to be done HOURS before I arrived. At least 80% of the freight is already 1-2 days late by the time it makes it back to the terminal now. They are working these hubs seven days a week and still can't get caught up.

They have started using Swift and other outside carriers to move freight that otherwise wouldn't make it. Congrats Saia.
