ODFL | Collision Mitigation System (CMS)

My new 2018 tractor will jam on the brakes under a certain overpass - routinely. And no, I don't use cruise control. It's happening to other drivers at the same overpass.

Personally, I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I'm sure they have their reasons for installing them. But if you need a truck to brake for a driver, then maybe that driver shouldn't be driving your truck?

I hate not having control over my truck. I don't need a truck braking for me. I'm aware of my space around my rig, and always keep safe following distance. I don't need some contraption to put the brakes on for me. This addition hasn't changed the way I drive, it just makes me cringe when I come up to an overpass.

Had a situation the other day. Had my cruise set at 64, no one in front, on the side or behind. Had a rust bucket as my third trailer, this whipping all over. Looked out my mirror and all of a sudden the brakes locked up, engine compression came on, the tractor dipped and pulled to the left, red light was on the CMS, and the BLU was recording a collision event. This is the valley up in the mountains, wet, ice and snow during the winter. If the roads would of been wet or slick, it would've been a possible wreck. Talked with a couple of other drivers and said they had the same occurrence at that spot, with and without the cruise set. I assume that it's picking up the overpass. That's why I don't care for this. We do have snow and ice during the winters, is this a disaster waiting to happen?

By the way Billy, I was not texting, drinking, eating nor sleeping as you think that us line drivers do all day. Or on the phone or didn't have my JBL's cranked.

I totally agree, where were you at? I rarely drive a new anymore, when I do drive one, I am a city driver now ran line for years with OD, I cringe when I am in traffic.

I've had my warning light go red but it has never hit the brakes. Happens at the same overpass every night. I almost always have my foot in it, I'll try with the cruise on and see if it brakes by itself.

There will be issues in poor weather, fur sure with the freightliners.b good news is not hearing of these issues with the system in Volvo and kw. I would jeep writing the tractor upon dvir and keep a copy of it everytime. Hrs a known issue with no fix. At least when if it wrecks someone we know od, freight liner and meritor can all be sued for not doing anything about it and not disabling it. I refuse to drive 1 of them that occasionally braked me at a couple different overpasses and has been to dealer twice and "recalibrated"

Overpass at 86 mile post. Northbound on 5. It's straight, so it's not in a curve or anything. The video said that these could be recalibrated by the shop, but I'm sure that they're not allowed.

Mine is dead over my weekend. It doesn't matter if I shut it completely down or leave it on. But it charges up okay
Mine won't charge at all. Battery stays at 2% and won't go higher. If I take it out off its base it goes dead immediately. I love technology..

Where you run it's only 55. What are you doing running 64 with triples? Only the Hermiston drivers from your terminal need to be running that speed. Slow it down before osp meets up with you.

At six figs you'll drive whatever OD puts in their trucks. We probably got some dumb college kid in nc that never drove a truck having every snake oil salesman wine and dine him to add this crap into our equipments. We'll have cameras within 5 years I promise.
Odd. Ward had em and took em out. For that matter, so did Swift. :argue:

You ought to know. Been looking in the mirror lately.

You're still dodging the question.........................................................................................................................................................................................
