I over heard some city drivers talking Friday about pay cuts in Springfield. So I poked my nose in a little and asked what it was about. They said the supervisors was calling all the city drivers Friday and changing all their start times from 9:00 to 9:30 and they will be losing money because they have to be back at the same time as always. They said every year the SCM backs up their start times for a numbers crunching gain. One driver said they used to start at 8:00 a while back. But what REALLY shocked me was they said their leaving freight EVERY day at customers because they don't have enough drivers in the city because numbers won't allow it. As a road driver I have a problem with this. If they're leaving freight now then that means starting later they will really be leaving freight. I'm going to do some more poking around today and see what else I can find out. Just curious what's happening at other centers? Or is this just our center?

A long time ago when I was in the city a majority of our city drivers had either a 7:30 or 8am start time and now most start at 9am...the problem was that most of us were empty by noon with nothing to do because most of our customers weren't ready for pickups till around 2pm at the earliest. By backing the majority of drivers up to 9am, it allows for more efficiency with less down time.

They do it all the time, it makes no sense at my center, because when they back our start times up we just get back later and sometimes don't get back in time for the pickups to go out on out bound.

Tell them to wait till they put them on 10 hour bids that is a pay cut.

At CLT mostly senior drivers bid on the four day week. The extra 52 days off per year are a strong enticement.
Exactly!! There's a lot to be said for that extra day off every week!! I used to work four day in the city with Wed's off...work two, take a day, work two more, take two more days...almost felt like a part time job!! :1036316054:

I'm on a 4/10 with Mondays off. I work my day off every week because I like the the o/t. How is that part time math genius? 40hrs straight + 10hrs o/t on my calculator hardly seems like part time.

There is a reason for 10 hour bids to cut ot. You work your day off because they need you to work obviously because they don't have enough people, if they had enough people you wouldn't have the choice to work your day off.

Wrong. The 15 senior guys on the 4/10s are city drivers who work the am dock and then peddle their routes. I've been doing this for 8 years. Any time I don't want to work I just let mgmt know I'm not working. No big deal. Might be different at other locations but we are not under staffed. They could easily hire part time to do the am dock and save money. Having the drivers doing the the work saves them money on the city side. Routes loaded and secured with less reworking during the day. Have been told we are one of the few terminals that have city drivers working the morning dock because it's more efficient not because we're under staffed. Full time -vs- part time hmmm better do some more math homework.

I noticed between you and Hammer, you both said "senior" drivers were on the 4/10's...that means they "chose" those bids, nobody is "put" on those bids as CT claims...

Your chasing your tail again. What happens if the senior drivers don't take those bids and the bottom guys are forced to take them? They don't have A "choice" like you claim.

What exactly am I wrong about? I explained how 10 hour bids work. If you come in every Monday on your day off with out being called in your not really on 10s maybe a glorified 10. Regardless if you don't work your day off you don't get ot till after 10 hours everyday it's a big pay cut.We have A few drivers who work the dock in morning. If your at full staff why are you working your day off? Whats the point of having 10 hour bids if every guy works their day off?
