SAIA | Saia has lost overall 100+ driver

4 more bites the dust ...wow
Turnover is just part of any business. Perhaps the cameras have caused some departures but many leaving have nothing to do with the cameras but of course the cameras will get the blame. The cameras purpose is to change driving habits that are not safe. Many want to view them strictly as a disciple tool. The company can't change that. They can only move forward with what they started and build a safer company.

How does backing without a seatbelt or rolling through a stop sign trigger an event? It would appear that the cameras are being monitored at all times as opposed to just when an event is triggered.

When backing, if you bump the dock hard it will set off camera, or if you come to a sudden stop. Drivers have been caught rolling a stop sign either by taking off quickly before completely stopping, or they roll a stop sign and hit a bump shortly after and the 8 second roll back catches them not stopping. Taking a turn quickly or above a certain speed also will bust you. Some of them are set too sensitive in my opinion....mine goes off if I fart !

In the truck I drive the camera is the same (too sensitive), I set mine off at least 8 times a night on my run.

That trainer just may have helped that driver reach that 3 million mile mark.

Yeah I bet he's a real crappy driver. Must've just got lucky for 20+ years. (INSERT TEENAGE EYE ROLL AND "WHATEVA" HERE) Probably should make him split his driving award with the trainer that got him there. What a joke.

"DEFEND....CAMERAS....NO.....MATTER.....WHAT!", said the corporate lap dog.

I've noticed that not all videos are saved. Like hitting bumps and bumping docks. So much for the transparency. But heaven forbid they think your on the phone. And all the literature our terminal has received says blinking red and green is the only time it's a saved event. THIS IS A LIE. I have a video to be coached on that I have proof the camera never blinked green and red.

Joe, Tang answered your question. I agree some of the trucks are too sensitive and at times they **** me off but there's nothing I can do about it. I've been coached for some ridiculous stuff (all minor infractions) but I just roll with it. A guy today got coached for having a pen on his ear. They said it was a Bluetooth and he informed them it wasn't and refused to sign the write up. They didn't press it. Which is probably a good thing knowing the man the way I do.

Nobody is perfect. We all have bad habits that we may not even be aware of. It can't be taken personal. Bad behavior has no age barrier. That trainer just may have helped that driver reach that 3 million mile mark. Arrogance and complacency have been the downfall of many senior drivers. Try and find some humility guys. No one is perfect.

Train, I don't know who's been telling you all this, But I'm pretty doggone close!!

Produce your proof to your tm or dm and retain a copy for yourself. Change can only be obtained through proof.

Not to butt in here guys, but to pack up and leave a good job because of cameras, or e-logs, in my opinion is foolish. Most all reputable companies anymore, weather ltl or other, are doing it. Much of it has to do with getting better insurance rates, especially when it clears a driver of liability in an accident....

I think that may be the case for forward facing cameras, but to me driver facing cameras could have the opposite effect.

The bottom line is this according to our new V.P ...... When compared to last year numbers our accident rate is down 31% ...... That is very significant. The cameras have helped the drivers become more aware and although most hate them they have saved the company millions. The trade off may be some turnover but it's not significant.
