Holland | Rumor about pay after 30 days!

WH & CH was to implement this a few months back and supposedly never did. For one it made the morale of the vet's even more tarnished. Think about the desperation of the company at the moment if it has to resort to this to hire on new drivers or even retain the new hires that it recently put on.

We have already seen the fact that they let slide the 30 day probation accident and your fired rule. I have witnessed that personally so I can attest to that occurring. So now add in the waive of progression pay that we all had to go through to get to scale and it is just another slap in the face of your senior staff.

The bigger slap in the face though is the fact that you will have a 10 mile wonder making the same scale as those who have 20 plus years of experience. We don't fault you new guys on a personal level you have to understand that! We are faulting a system that is continuing to slide down the path of its own demise. Along the way we have paid our dues in more ways then can be imagined for you newer guys, so yes there is a sense of bitterness and divide.

You guys may or may not see it in the break rooms and may not really care if you do see it, but the gulf between the new hires and the vet's will only deepen if this is implemented. And yes we do witnesses the fact that the new guys get the easy loads, get special treatment for things that the vet's when they were newbies could have never imagine.

When you have created the morass of a hostile in many ways working condition that YRC/Holland has it is a recipe for disaster. Don't think for a moment new guys that you can out run or out deliver the vet's, they can do (and have done) that for years in their sleep!

The expectations bar was drastically lowered for new hires in comparison with those of us that have been around for years. So yes if we seem a bit bitter to the fact that a guy with little and yes under 5 yrs or 550,000 miles verifiable experience with a clean record and background check that basically cleaned out your colon at the time, with the expectation of starting day 1 doing 15-18 stops a day with 0 returns will be making the same scale as us right out of the starting line than so be it.

By the way Flash was one of those guys that went through that colon cleansing background check and was required to be able to show up on day 1 with all that experience and be able to do the same job as the vet's of his time. So he is not "Trolling" the forum as you say to feel good. He is expressing the same frustrations that all of us that have come before you feel about the direction this company has set its course on.

To tell the truth, it cracks me up listening to the newbies. They have no clue to what the vet's had to go through. Sure our current equipment qualifies for junk yard status at best, but even the Sterling's are better than what many of us for years drove when we first started. And the new guys in general get the slip seat freightliners and International's for city work.

Just imagine what these guys would have thought about the old White's with air assisted steering and no AC, or even the old Fords with the exhaust out the bottom in the summer with no AC. Heck the fact that we didn't have AC in city units till a few years ago alone! Now let's throw in the old Boarders Book account and its mall sister company where you would get 3 - 5 pallets going in where you would have to 2 wheel 5 boxes at a time through the mall in and bring all their return crap out, then have to jump back into that sauna know as your cab to go and hustle off the other 7 - 10 deliveries that you were assigned for the day.. lets not forget that you will have to do pick ups and come back in for either the switch or Home Depot load after your shift time because as dispatch used to love to say, "you are the last one so you have to do it".

There was no sitting in the break room for an hour each day at the end of the shift as I see on a regular occurrence with the new guys waiting out their time to go home.

There was no holding of hands like the new guys get from dispatch today. There was no orientation, no ride along training! There was a stack of bills and a DVR book and you were expected to figure it out since after all you came in with some experience at least and if you couldn't , you were gone!

It was expected when hired that you were able to preform at the same level as the vet's, even if you were not at scale yet.

In many ways as the newer guy on the later shifts you were actually required to accept all the crap assignments that for some reason today all the vet's seem to still be getting assigned. The sense of entitlement that many new hires have today is astounding really when you step back and look at it. Again we don't fault you guys personally since you were not the ones that created the mess, but you guys really do not have a clue what the vet's went through and did to keep this company afloat all these years. So if you hear us vent on TB or in the break room about it, you have to understand for some of the new guys you most likely wouldn't have even made it through the 30 days.. I remember when they would bring in 10 guys to start on a Monday and only 1 or 2 would still be standing by day 31..

I talk to a couple of your guys on the CB quite often, and each time when we go our separate ways, I just shake my head and feel sorry for them.
You must be really happy. All you do is troll our board and try to make yourself happy.
Buddha it may appear to you Flash talks smack about Holland, but to his defense Flash worked for the REAL Holland for over 20 years as a very productive Driver and honest person. Flash is one of the few that can talk the talk because he has walked the walk. Dude got feed up with YRCW and found other employment unlike the doom and bloomers on this board. JUST MY OPINION.

Ditto Memphis

It sounds to me like these newbies are getting the red carpet rolled out for them and the vets who have made all the sacrifices over the years are getting the shaft. Back in my days there, we couldn't wait to "grow some whiskers" so we could get the better treatment and better loads since we had finally paid our dues. And to see these newbies get to bypass that is a bunch of b.s. in my opinion.
There was already a lack of teamwork and comaraddari around there, and this issue surely isn't going to help that any.

I agree! The treatment they receive in my opinion is all about a YES vote in '19!!

Sounds like to me you Old Timers had it pretty tough, I'll admit I never pedaled freight, can count the times on one hand I touched freight in my 35 yrs.
I was just an old lazy a$$ line driver as BillyLo said, I did drive KB11 IHCs with no heaters, had a flat tire or burned out wheel
bearing each week or two, never had PS in 35yrs, thanks to the Teamsters we got ACs in 1978.
Had only two lane roads, no interstates, mirrows the size of a coffee can, most trailers had TS, but not all.
Still it was a well paying job , had a little respect in those days.
We never did dream of all the fancy bells and whistles of todays trucks.
But to be honest, my hat's off to the Newbies or even the 10 or 15 yr veterans who put up with today's BS,horrendous traffic
no CBs, can't eat, drink, rush, rush crap, cameras just to mention a few, I'm sure all carriers are not like this, but I'm afraid
its coming.
No way in hell even with our old working conditions would I have traded places with todays trucking.
Sure would see a real contract again.

Absolutely it is! I hear some of our vet's say we just have to talk to these guys and they will vote No, and I always have to point out that where else would these guys go with little to no experience and be able to get away with the things that they have been getting away with.

The worst and it pissed me off to no end was when a newbie said to me ,"Hell this place is great! Where else can I get paid full time wages for part time work" .. well needless to say that was the final straw for me! Up to that point I was still doing what I always did averaging 15 - 21 combined. With little to no returns on my run.. from that point forward I said if I can't motivate these guys to raise the bar I was just going to reset to their bar.. and it has been down hill since and I care less.. by the way he was at one of the only volume stops on my route and was set to go do a switch instead of asking for the freight that I was there to pick up after driving 25 minutes to get to the joint in the first place.. sure dispatch had a part to that, but in the day as we were delivering we would ask if they had a pick up while we were there.. he said he didn't ask because he was hoping for the switch instead.

I have 12 now. I am just not a little bitch. If I wanted to get another job I have 31 years driving 20 local in Columbus and 11 OTR. No tickets or accident. I think I could find one. I also don't troll my past employers or constantly cry about choices I've made. Sorry Snowflake.
Btw. My screen name here is what 90% of drivers and management call me in Columbus. Not really concerned if anyone here knows who I am.

Hey Budah got a question. We used to get freight going to restaurants out of Worstram I believe. Black wrapped pallets. What happened to it?

Do you really care? That Darden freight was a pain in the ass to deliver.

-15% will be forever and never ever will we get a pay raise and in 2019 they are already talking of just extending the same old B.S. ponzi contract !! And in past 2 weeks we have had a 3 Driver's Quit & a Supervisor Quit all going to Non-union companies for more money !!

"Cry about choices I've made"? Hell, leaving that back-stabbing ::shit:: hole was the smartest thing I've ever done. And show me where my posts are inaccurate or "crying"?

If you thought that you came to your little snowflake lover's circle jerk on this forum, you've come to the wrong place. And if you thought that you came here to a place where we all agree and will agree with you, again, you've come to the wrong place.

Stop with those facts. You'll get under budah's skin.

i enjoy working at Holland, I enjoy having great health insurance, I really like the guys I work with we have a chat line and have a good time every night, I am disappointed about the pension but have done my best to take matters into my own hands the last five years. I have over thirty years experience with a good driving record and I am sure I could find some non union job that pays more cents per mile. I am not interested, but I am very happy for you if you switched companies and enjoy your new company, that is great! Please be happy for me if I am happy and do not make the same choices as you! If we ever meet at a truck stop and break bread together there is a very good chance that I will probably eat different food than you and dress in different clothes than you and probably talk a little different than you. I hope you would not think that makes me wrong, it just makes me different than you. Let's stick together and fight the big guys and not each other! Have a great weekend brothers!
