They are telling you the right thing to do. If off on long term comp you should do the same, they do not hold it against you and it saves you money at a time when you need to cut back as much as you can.

True.
Get the withdrawal card.
They still cover your butt.
I was out nine months.
You certainly do not want to get hit up with dues for the time you were off on your first check back if you don't withdraw.

Why aren't you using FMLA?
Fmla would be used if problems occur intermittently. After surgery and while back to work off disability.
Do not use them concurrently.
It's a waste of fmla time if used together with disability time.
If your on fmla while on disability your just burning fmla days up for nothing. Once you burn em all up you have to work 1200 hours to start the cycle again. Get more fmla leave.
Disability and fmla should be used separately.
Been through it. Have experience with both.

Ha had heart attack in march that's what I did union got me a withdraw card u be on short disability good for 6 months ins well be paid through team care u get $277 a week every 2 weeks the doctor have to fill out paper saying. Can't work I had ATFLack they sent me $8100 so good luck

The only advantage I can see to going FMLA is that your health insurance is paid while you're out. It sounds like his health insurance is covered as mine is if I go out on personal injury. FMLA can be used to care for your wife or parent(s) if necessary so I would save it for just in case. I don't know where you are or what your unemployment laws are there but...in PA if I get a doctor's release for light duty and the company won't give me light duty I am eligible for unemployment, which pays better than short term disability. This applies if and when the company does offer light duty for those injured on the job. I have yet to see a company that will provide light duty work for those who are not injured on the job.

Just something to think about for the future, I have suplemental insurance. It covers my pay. If a Dr says i need off work for more than 2 weeks i fax the paper work to them and they cut me a check for the amount of time i will be off. You dont have to pay income tax on the money they send you and you can collect it for up to six months. I only took out the policy thats equivilant to the bring home on $50k/year because i can get by on that and i just wanted peace of mind if I got hurt bills would be paid but you can take out more. Its right around $15/week. It comes right out of my pay check.
