FedEx Freight | Any raise rumors or fact

The $1 raise will not last long as FedEx will or has already planned ways to recover it. Just ask yourself why we would get a 3.75% increase when inflation is half of that? We were basically flat YOY. Revenue is up $223 million but operating income down another $23 million. Also down is our margin. Salaries and benefits column is up again. If our margins drop below 5% the AIC payout will be $0. You are already loosing 10 cents to the health insurance increases coming.

That thought does appeal to me as a line driver. But as we all know line drivers are a necessary evil and they don't like us that much.
But yes, if it was true it would set off a :::shit::: storm between us drivers and those city steering wheel holders.

Maybe you should call your road driver advisor. Isn't that why they brought that position back so you all could have a shoulder to cry on?

What dumb ass started the whole city drivers think they should make more than road? Edit nevermind found it Red would be the culprit big shocker there. Why wouldn't a city guy want to take an extra daytime road run if they can't cover it with a road driver? It's easy money and more money.

To be fair, have equally spent my tenure here crossing back and forth from road and city, both positions have their sucking points and to sit back and say one position deserves more over the other position is plain silly. Most difficult part of road is forcing yourself to stay awake at night when you should be in bed, and city? Well I think you can imagine how sucky that job is.. bumping 35-40 docks per day, residential deliveries, inside mall deliveries... oh yea, good f'n times

If you work 60 you should get paid for 60. If you work 40 why would you expect to get paid for 60. Not sure where the argument is coming from. I personally have zero desire to work more than 40 hours. I no longer have the desire to literally kill myself for a bigger paycheck by working 60 plus hours. Life is just wayyyy too short

Amen driver. Through the gate, work eight, and skate.

Jealousy won't get you into our club.

When you head back to P&D after getting a look inside the Line Haul club.

I think there may be 2 words to explain the increase. Driver shortage. Well maybe 3, if we add competition. Those seem to be driving wages more than anything else.

A couple things to keep in mind.

The percentage noted is not the same across the board. As a percentage, some got slightly more, some slightly less. I don't have access to enough info to figure the overall (cost to employ) increase.

When looking at the percentage of increase, remember, we are only seeing an increase in the WAGE portion of compensation. The rest of your compensation did not go up. Wages represent approx 80% of your total compensation, as best I can figure.

Also, on the competition front: Locally this increase brings us up 30 something cents behind XPO's hourly wage. But wait! They are expecting their increase any time now.

If we can't get and keep enough drivers, there can't be much growth.

Then again, I could be wrong

Greetings Swamp.....
I think you may be oversimplifying the costs associated with a wage increase a bit. While you may certainly be correct regarding the 80% figure, I personally haven't looked at it, many other parts of the compensation package are directly tied to it. Take 401k and PPA for instance......they are both based off of earnings, correct? So after Oct.1, the company will be contributing a higher amount into those funds as well, simply based off the higher hourly wage. I don't know that we can assume health ins cost will not go up......Will probably have to reserve that judgement until the compensation statements are updated......

Carry on sir.....

Our health insurance is going up, they told us when they announced the raise.

Yes, the premiums are going up, but how much is the overall cost of the insurance coverage itself increasing? I would think that it is rising more than the increase in employee contribution, but will reserve that judgement until I see the data on my overall compensation statement.....

Don't forget the great hand dryers that the CLT guys got in the bathroom. That has to be added into the cost of the raise
