If a ABF terminal employee is a Union dock worker or city driver with a bid, (not 10%e employee) and ABF closed the terminal due to the flooding, is that dock worker paid while it is closed? Is there contract language that talks about this? von.

It's Article 61 section 1 workday workweek. There's no specific language about natural disasters/ states of emergencies in that section anyhow. That's central states ABF book. ABF's contract language on this article and section is identical to the old NMFC by the way.

I was going to just ignore this but what the hell...Are you serious about this question? Or are you just looking to see what the responses are? If you're serious you're either new to the business or dumb as a rock and I know that you're not new to the business. What's the matter, no play over at the other sandbox? You were all about dissing this site along with the rest, do you have their permission to post here? I have a suggestion, why don't you call all the advertisers here and complain about the site? Oh, yeah, you got me, that was your idea to start with. Next question...aaaa never mind, I'll wait for your response.

Uh I don't know what you are taking about but I happen to know Von and I can tell you he is no troll and doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

The hurricane will be considered "An act of God". If the terminal stays closed long enough there might be extra work at the nearest terminal(s) that is handling the freight for the closed terminal.
A while back the Little Rock terminal lost a lot of dock & shop workers due to Roy Slagle's threat to move the terminal to Memphis. The company suddenly realized qualified experienced workers didn't grow on trees. The company flew in workers from surrounding terminals to work weekends then flew them back. The shop employees worked two hours overtime on the dock after their bid shift in the shop in attempt to move freight.
Possibly the company might see the need to offer temporary work to the closed terminal workers.

I remember that incident. Some of those guys were from the tire re-cap shop in Little Rock. I agree that backfired on Roy. He once came to our other Indy terminal 319 in Brownsburg, IN for a pep talk. Some of the guys had been around a long time. They were polite & respectful in their questions but you could see he did not like the questions or answers he had to give. And he left knowing we new his answers were weak & nothing good would come from the meeting. Oh yea, a new contract was going to be voted on. Hence his visit. von.

I assume you knew he didn't just suddenly decide to "Retire". He got the boot. Normally an upper echelon management type announces his/her retirement months in advance of their 65th birthday which is the mandated age for management. "Ol Roy' announced his retirement & "Retired" the same week. I think he was 60 at the time of his "Retirement". He just didn't fit in at ABF. I don't know why Tim Thorne didn't get the job over Roy to start with.

I had forgotten that but you are correct. The board has a lot of control as to who works in the top positions of a company. If you can change the board, you can put in place the people you want to. When Mr Young finally got out of running the company or having influence about the big decisions ABF lost more than a manager or owner. Why would Reynolds be put in a position like she was over the years with no LTL Trucking experience? I never could figure that one out. But it worked. And now you have a empty shell of a once successful trucking company. von.

Judy was put in her position for two reasons, 1. She understands finance & has a lot of connections, 2. Her gender, it looks good in the business world to have a female in the upper echelon of management. I don't think she knew the first thing about freight when she came on board.

Thank you for your comment about a mean bone. But I must disagree when I responded about the post on having a dumb question. I said unless you send me money, I would not give a rat's a** until the funds cleared the bank. Using the words 'rats a**, some might construe those words for being mean. And for that I do not apologize. But hey, I appreciate you as my corner man. von.

I agree. But to make it to the top where other more experienced people would have been a more sensible choice is beyond me. In the game of Snooker, when you place the cue ball behind another ball making for a very tough shot, as they say, you have hooked your opponent. And that is exactly what she did. von.
