To hell with the vacation. That is the carrot & stick approach. Think about the math. 1 week vacation =s' 45 hours of straight time. About a grand. Now take, say, 30 bucks a week for medical deduction every pay check ='s about 15 thousand a year. 15 grand more of your pay, or a thousand. Refuse to vote in medical payments, let em keep the vacation. Better yet, don't give them any concession. Play hard ball all the way up to a strike vote. Last 5 years you gave them back 15% and they went right out & spent your money you gave up to buy non union trucking logistic operations. Push them right to the edge of the cliff during contract talks. If not, resign, & apply @ FedX. They have a large supply of lube to make the reaming they give you ease the pain. That's you, NOT your bank account balance that will feel better.
Not to be an ass, but $30 works out to $1,560 a year, not $15,600. Just an extra zero. It's nit picking. Point still stands, and taken.
 
I really don't get high with .50 strength. But, if you happened to see my latest MRI on my Lumbar region, especially of L3 L4 L5 you would be taking some kind of pain relief. Regardless of your source. von.
Yeah, I'm starting to get mildly bulging discs. Hopefully yoga can stave off the horror that is to come. For the first time in my career, I actually like my job now. Lol

I used to ref ice hockey years ago. And the clinics we attended in the summer were with NHL Officials & a woman training coach for the NY Rangers. And the one thing that stuck were the stretching exercises we did before going on the ice. I still use them today which seem to help some. Doing a knee squat withe the beach ball behind your back & up against the wall seems to help me a lot. You see this exercise in gyms all over the place. von.

Yeah, I'm doing DDP Yoga. I was...skeptical, to put it lightly, but I'll be darned if it isn't helping a lot. Like...to a ridiculous degree.

You mean 15 HUNDRED per year, right? 30x52=1560.
 
An in law asked me this weekend if ABF bought OD. He said he & others helped load a trailer for a preacher in Texas that was moving to Oklahoma. Upack made estimates & arrangements but an OD trailer was used. He didn't know if the tractor was ABF or OD since he wasn't there when the trailer was picked or dropped. He said the trailer was set up for household goods with dividers & a ramp.
A guess is that ABF is getting ready for a strike by being able to move freight to other carriers. They don't want to be caught with customers freight like during the 94 strike.
I know for a fact that ABF looked at buying OD several years back before OD starting providing nationwide service. Management officials looked at OD terminals, property, operation etc.
OD doesn't have the labor costs that ABF has because they don't provide the insurance & pay into the pension fund so they can move freight at lower rates.

And there is the evidence that ABF is trying to get out from under the Union. If they had purchased OD with its structure & assets they would have the perfect storm to shift work from the union company to the non-union. Then bankrupt ABF Freight or leave it operating with 1/10th the previous work force. I have said from the start their goal is to rid themselves of the pension obligation & the work rules under a CBA. And it seems they are on their way. I say a strike @ the end of this contract or the threat of one is the only way to see any kind if a decent contract. But, I also believe that before the end of this next contract ABF will bankrupt the assets of its only union work force, strike or no strike. Von.

There needs to be a solution to the pension. Our government just kicks the can down the road for someone else to worry about. No company can compete with the upside down numbers that ABF is liable for. Anyone's guess is as good as mine on how to solve that problem.

I mean... With that red circle language, the union is already dead at ABF. Everybody who was hired past a certain date has no work protection from purchased transportation. ABF can move everything with Werner, and the dregs can go to ABF employees. If you think that hasn't incentivized ABF to rid itself of senior drivers...haha I got a bridge I could sell ya.

Why is it the government's problem to worry about ? Our Union needs to fix it's own problems but nobody wants to be the bad guy and admit or implement the solution.

The government makes the rules on pension liabilities and laws on how they can be corrected so they have a huge impact on pensions. Basically we got 2 freight companies paying for all of the pension liabilities and YRC only pays 1/4 so ya, the government has a lot to do with it.

Also they ultimately have the last say on any pension resolutions the union or others come up with.

What SAC75 said and I'd like to add that the government is responsible for the mess we are in to begin with. The pension was fine until the government took it over and it has failed under their oversight.
