consider the big turnaround in management ...
consider the junk equipment ....
consider no real promise of a pension .....
consider 2019 when the contract is going to mean more concessions ....
consider the stupid decisions of management every night ...
consider no driver safety appreciation programs ....
why would anybody with very little "time" or no "time" stay here or apply here ...
seriously .....

To gain experience and that's about it. The new guys have talked about it in the break room many times now.
It is sad that Holland has been reduced to this. Used to be you came in with experience and now we are the training wheels.

"I don't want to give up my vacation" Most common answer..What is that extra week of vacation going to get you when it is time to retire??

Do any companies require experience anymore? It looks to me like they'll take anyone old enough to get a CDL and teach them how to get it then give them a job. I know it's easy for me to say from my standpoint but I don't see why anyone would stay there unless they had a ghost that would prevent moving on.

maybe the insurance? Maybe getting paid for every thing you do? Maybe the sick pay? Maybe the holiday pay and if you work premium pay? Maybe do your job and nobody f**ks with you? Maybe if you have a accident the union well help keep your job? Maybe being paid for your birthday? Maybe being paid for your aniversary day? Maybe your seniority? Just a few things I stay for!

A lot of people don't seem to understand that there are much, much worse places to work that are not other LTL carriers. And there are even worse LTL carriers than YRCW.

Raise your hand if you'd rather work at Central Transport? Or perhaps Land Air Express of New England? I defy anyone to claim working at either of them to be objectively better and not be lying about it.

@MrPerfect01 would raise his hand.

It's really a great job after you maneavor around the Downer Scum. What other LTL job can I jump into that starts at 7 am Monday and pays over $1000 take home Friday?? Oh none

What terminal do you work at that you can get hired and start at 7? Must be a tiny barn.

Yep. Some can't leave because of their driving record and their (lack of) work ethic. And they fear that a new employer would check their past relationships with management.
The fear of the unknown keeps them there.

Very true. But most other companies cover that same stuff......+15% more in wages.
Just saying.....

What's pathetic is that Holland is now compared to those on your list versus being the industry leader like the old days.
They are having trouble hiring help for a reason.

I won't disagree with that, but there are still far worse places to be employed than Holland. They aren't the bottom of the barrel as long as they're still better than the bottom of the barrel, and almost any LTL outfit is better than driving OTR for a truckload outfit.

Holland used to be the best, but they're far from being the worst and there are still reasons to work here. Yes, ODFL, FedEx and even XPO pay better, but each of them have trade offs.

OD doesn't pay overtime, and pretty much demands it. FedEx doesn't treat their people any better and still has it's share of old junk equipment. And XPO has plenty of poor equipment, poor treatment and poor benefits to make Holland look better by comparison, they just hide it under a coat of shiny paint to make it look better. And not one of them is unionized, though how objectively worse that is depends on how you feel about the Teamsters.

There aren't as many reasons to want to work at Holland as there used to be, but that doesn't mean it's the worst or a place you shouldn't want to work. Better here than Swift.
