ABF | How Long Will It Take To Realize What is Happening?

I think that the jury is still out on this one and we shall see.
Union Pacific can't even have self driving trains and them things are on rails. I don't know how they are supposed to run trucks down the road. Our own trucks slam on the brakes for overhead signs and they are supposed to drive by themselves? I don't know about that.

Who won't let them have the self driving trains, the union or the gubment? With some of the recent wrecks one would think that self driving trains might be an improvement. It is hard to believe that they don't at least have speed limiting controls in use.

The government. Csx union is also teamsters and cant stop outsourcing much less keep csx from installing computers to drive

It is their loss that they are now teamsters. And you are right, the teamsters couldn't prevent them from installing the computers to drive but they could have language that the guys couldn't be displaced by innovation.

Interesting thought abfer, but I have family members who WERE part of that company and it's useless union and feel confident to say unequivocally that the union reps are bought and paid for by the company. The filing of a grievance won't matter because it'll be ignored. When I say paid for, I mean it literally

Thank you, Brother......Are you saying that my dial-up AOL-supported Internet service through my rotary dial landline will be outdated in about two weeks?

Yaas.......I'm already nostalgic for old trucks,.....I spend hours on the computer looking at old truck pictures........Hardly any have bikini-clad young women in front of them.........
Canary, this is what i cut my teeth on with RTL, no heaters, some had TS, not all, saddle tanks and snuff can size mirrors.
5spd direct trans, no aux. no 2 spd,450 Red Diamond engine Holly 2 brl carb

I know a couple guys who say the same thing around here. Blet and teamsters suck, as do the union that the conductor's belong to. No power, no spine, no protection whatsoever.

I wonder how our Brothers and Sisters that are EX-Consolidated Freightways Teamsters think about Labor Day now? One of those things that means it won't ever be the same...Hey Judy, if you are watching...don't do it on Labor Day...just the significance of it...that is why it hurt so bad for CF Employees

The government. Too many accidents.
I'm sure self driving trucks will come, just not so sure it's going to be as soon as many (companies) want.

Wont be for long.... at least until the self driving trucks take out the linehaul portion of our business. And I say that overly bold statement not even knowing who you are talking about.
new city bids, sitting by the freeways, waiting on the self driven trucks to arrive. then you take over in the city. New meaning to the meet and greet.

You guys are both wrong.........It ain't the government, or the companies,.........It's the liability lawyers on retainer for the companies that are horrified that they no longer have "human error" to blame, and someone other than the company to sue in the inevitable crashes that will occur.

Here in Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon has been testing self-driving cars for several years,...........and that is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. Not much "real-world" testing goes on......

Hah! Thanks for the video, Brother! However, I saw some eerie similarities in how sluggish that old truck started,.......and how I "start" in the morning...........Even the tinny little horn toot was startlingly familiar........

Quite a few years back I thought I had to work at my home shop in addition to my regular shift. I pulled & rebuilt a RD 450 in a R-190. A neighbor actually used it for a lowboy tractor. He was older than me & had operated equipment all his life.He had a small construction company & managed well. The R-190 was all he needed at the time. I saw several like these at the truck show in Springfield Mo. a few years back.

I guess they were ok for their days.
We snapped a lot of exhaust valve heads, they came out with a ball bearing rotor on the retainer, and a contraption
that sprayed a mist of Marvel Mystery Oil on the rocker arms, the problem went away.
We later got IHC city tractors with a 501 red, with 4 brl carbs, they had 8 spd roadrangers, never drove one of these.
We had A50 Macks with 431 engines, up draft carbs, they replaced # 1 and 6 spark plugs about every 2 weeks from
running too lean,
Back in those days, broken axles were common in most trucks, those KB 11s had a Timken differential, I never heard
of an axle or any other failure with these rear ends. " Boy the good old days"

A spin off is inevitable, there is no stopping it now. Rebranding, renaming, new logos, a second headquarter building, additional companies bought and added. It's all over except for the happy announcment of how flexible it will make the whole company and how we will all be better off for it.
