XPO | Rumor Mill: It's going again!

You're right on the money there! I don't see ANY young people coming into this industry. The reason is incontrovertible...they don't wanna do this sort of work. I can't say as I blame them either. The long hours, constant aggravation and stress...who the hell needs it?
I still think people will do it for a fair amount of compensation. I don't buy it that this generation is any lazier. Every generation says that about the next. There still is plenty of workers that will be happy with a good paying job, but I do agree the aggravation level has risen through out the years . This generation has witnessed people like Brad Jacobs who expect assorbanent compensation for there efforts and don't care about who it hurts. That's what we tell them is a success. We tell Donald Trump is successful because of his wealth irrespective of how he earned it. We have given them bad examples by putting these people on pedistiles they don't deserve at the same time putting the working guy down because he wants his fair share. We label greed as a union workers but look the other way when an executive cooks the books to make his bottom line larger. We have somehow as a society made blue collar workers the Bain of are disgust while the masses defend the new breed of robber Barron's.
We told them there's no honor in hard work by giving the greedy the green light to take advantage of others .
It's no wonder their not interested in these jobs in the current status.

Ok I'm done now

True or not true: $10,000 bonus is now $50,000 grand to go to Minot , ND.

I've heard of other terminals that have NEVER offered hiring bonuses are now offering a $1,000 here or $2,000 there yet still , no takers.

I guess a bad word of mouth travels fast...hmmm.
That's a negative, ghost rider. FedEx is offering 5000, we are not right now.

I guess I should have known this was not true. With all of the great financial news as far as XPO Logistics is concerned , it would have been stupid to think upper management would spend money like that to recruit drivers - no matter how bad they need them.

From the public statements of Bradley Jacobs , XPO Logistics is more fired up to develop ( and invest in ) driverless technology , than to make sure the current business model is properly staffed.

No people to do the job means the job will not get done. No promotion from within leads to lack of knowledge throughout the company. Instead of answers coming from experience , answers come from clueless , overwhelmed , titleholders that think the tried-and-true way is wrong because it did not come from computer software or a paradigm shift.

Apologies , rant over.

Well, as far as kids being lazier I think that they are. I have heard of reports that even Guitar sales being down at least 30% . Not much young talent being produced. Guitar playing is one of those things that take a lot of work to get good at. Kids are not willing to put in the time and practice it takes. That's why all of the Old Rockers from the 70"s are still Touring .

Doesn't XPO give drivers a raise every year? Taking OT away would be foolish and hurt morale I would think. Do linehaul drivers get paid OT, or just by the mile and clock in for dock time?

No apologies necessary...those were pearls of wisdom, my friend!

Amen, brother! We saw The Eagles recently (thankfully before Glenn Fry passed), also James Taylor...I'm dating myself...Elton John, and hopefully Billy Joel soon.

I agree and it's not just trucking, it's HVAC and electricians, pipefitters, plumbers, even entry level factory jobs aren't being filled in some parts of the country. I don't blame young people for not wanting to fill these jobs, I blame most of us, their parents who have coddled them with cell phones, babysat them with video games, protected them from sandboxes and "smear the *****" style football. We've managed to and turn our young people into a bunch of sissies who are afraid of germs and too proud to do a job that makes them sweat. It's about work ethic, discipline, and the ability to power one's way through a job they don't like in order to get a job they do like further down the road. Sadly, these qualities are absent throughout most of the 30 and under crowd today.

You know trucking use to be different the open road nobody looking over your shoulder, basically your own boss(so to speak) stoping when you felt like, ate when you want,it wasn't a factory job punching a clock or an office job. You older guys know what I'm talking about. Well guess what today, you've got someone watching you, watching your speed, they know where you are at all times(gps) you now have a certain break time, your on a time line. I realized times have change I understand that.its just if I was a new man starting out I would not be a driver these days..sorry for the rant

Most driver's push themselves to get the job done, but that is not good enough for these companies. If one could do fifty stops a day then everyone should be able to no matter how many miles or how hard a delivery is.

They taken a lot of what was good about trucking away for sure. I have said b4 this is a result of scraping the bottom for anybody they can put behind the seat . Drive the reward down and monitor the dumb . I think NASA did it in the 60's .. . Sit back and watch.

You know , come to think of it, not one Driver at my former service center had a child that went into the Transportation industry. We encouraged and steered them in another direction. That is something worth noting.
And tells me that this industry is headed for some interesting times.

Well I know other that have left there industry and can into trucking. Some have said that this is the one job that can't be shipped overseas. I also know a very good auto mechanic that became a truckdriver and his reason was his other company didn't pay him what he is worth.

What really get good driver mad is the lazy drivers get the easy runs while the drivers that do there job get screwed with all the ::shit::. The driver that pushes to get the job done is expected to do it every day and sometimes even more, while the lazy do very little and go home.

Great point, fly. I see it everyday. I get a 200-mile round-trip liftgate assignment with 14+ stops while those much younger than me get the local routes with 8 (or less) deliveries. I could take it as a pseudo-compliment, but my aching body thinks otherwise. Ticks me off at this point in my career.

You see it everywhere. Supervisor works the workers like a mule and lazy ass get a gravy run and then a volume run to keep off the dock. And then management wonders why people have bad attitudes and bitch about being worked to death.
