unless I missed it I did not see where he said that
Correct, but I've yet to see a corporation that isn't greedy. No diffferent than the people that work there. All parties care about the bottom line. If there's a company that isn't greedy, I'd love to go work there.

Agreed. It is a fair question. I thought my questions were also fair, yet they go unanswered. Unanswered by quys that say the union is the answer. The cracks are starting to show in this old house.

The Union might not be the answer. But based on my 18 years working under a CBA & not paying a dime each week for medical coverage, & collecting 2 grand a month in retirement for 18 years of work, I can only think of 1 answer. Go Union. von.

Unlike the union guys and their empty promises, I never said I had the answer.

I wonder how long I'll have to wait for them to answer my questions? It's only been over a week.
I think the question you ask was something about greedy corporations vs greedy unions. Despite our private conversation were I made it clear that I am not a union or the highway type of guy. ( In response to your statement that I think union is the "bee knees") I never said the unions haven't had their share of corruption in some places. Their no different than any other organization.

My experience with my self and my family and many close friends has been quite beneficial and positive with the Teamsters. As a matter of fact my immediate family prospered from are membership with them from good wages, benefits and even a scholarship for my sister.

The Only time in my trucking career that I personally experienced declining wages and benefits is in my 20+ years with Con-way. All of my union time prior to that I gained in those areas. I have tried the non union way trust the company to take care of you route . No matter how well Xpo does it is my opinion that Mr Jacobs will be one of the few who make any gains . He has already shown what direction he wants to go by lowering benefits for new hires vs legacy. You need no more proof than that. Hell he's already said in his last of many appearances on Mad Money that he will replace drivers with automated trucks as soon as he can and the drivers will have to be repurposed. Profits before all.( Showing that love I guess)

That is what guys like Jacobs do is buy companies cut overhead and cost to show greater profits. Then ultimately sell the companies they bundled for a big profit. It's simple . Look at his past and that's what he has done. If we want to keep or gain anything than we need a say.

The fact that we have no say at Xpo in any of are employment terms vs having a say through collective bargaining makes it a better choice for me at this point. If corruption of some sort would arise in my local than I get the choice to vote them out .

I feel for you that your time with the union was a bad one and I truly wish it would have been a more positive experience that many others like myself have had. I can understand your stance if that's the only experience you have had with them. That would make me bitter also.I would probably feel the same. I now know where your coming from in terms of that.

I hope this answers your question.

Interesting, looking from the outside in I think you hit the nail on the head. Pay and benefits will say A lot about a company. Offering great benefits the employer can set the standard high. When they don't employees run as soon as something else comes along, or are easily disgruntled. The employer does more bottom feeding to keep more bodies in cold seats. Any job that's worth having is probably been had.

Not much of a morale boaster when your XPO CEO is talking openly about using driverless trucks.

Like I have said before Jacobs is trying to sell his stock. By saying his company will be driverless in 10yrs he's telling prospected investors he will not have the burden and cost related to drivers ... hence higher profits. Also he's purposely sending a message to his drivers saying you are replaceable be thankful for what you got. It's not much different than a CEO of a manufacturing company based in the US saying to his employees be carful or I will send your job to Mexico.
What we have to determine is how much of the driver workforce will be automated . My bet is it will be some of are current line haul system at best.( that's within 10yrs) further out maybe more but there will always be a need for p&d drivers in the near future. There is a lot that has to be put in place to support automated trucks and we can't even maintain our road infrastructure as it exist.

I'm sure most you've heard this all before . Mr. Jacobs is touted as a mergers-and-acquisitions guy, 500 deals. Buy at a discount sell at a profit. Some deals he's held as long as 10 years, and a pipeline of deals that he's built over 30+ yrs, so it's what he does best. I don't think most people have any problem with him being a billionaire, it's just he's not a regular CEO running a transportation company. His investors and him that are here to profit and will jump ship at some point in the near future. In the meantime with a fairly large stake in the company stock, he's not going to listen to anybody outside his circle of expert's, and Big Data cruchers.

With that being said, he doesn't have any loyalty to the employees of XPO. At what length will he go to meet his objectives. Granted I've never worked for a poor person, but I don't believe he's a Warren Buffett style investor either. These types of actions have given the Teamsters a target whether you believe in the unions or not.

I agree he is no Warren Buffet type of invester as matter of fact Mr Buffet warns of his kind. Jacobs type of investing add no real value to the economy as a whole.
That being said he is what he is and we have to deal with the consequences of the hand we were dealt the best way we see fit either individually or collectively.
There are those here that think that they will benefit from his style of running a business maybe their right and he's changed his ways. All we have to go by is his practices that speak volumes. Unless he's changed his style I feel we're in for some lean years in gains for drivers.

Not to worry. Bradley is going to make XPO great again. Just not for the workers.

Other than UPS, all the union companies drivers have given back wages. Based on a conversation I had with a Holland driver, our middle tier drivers make more than their top tier drivers. Any way you slice it, drivers all lost. The union didn't protect it's members. It never does.
You say Jacobs is the only one to gain, yet we've got raises every year under Jacobs. Can the union protect drivers from driverless trucks? If Holland wants them, what can the union do?

Look at his past and that's what he has done.
Why do we look at his past to determine what he'll do in the future, but we don't do that with the union? Why will the Union suddenly stop being a greedy corporation getting rich on the workers backs and start caring about it's members since it never has?

We won't have to give back because Mr Jacobs is going to make this the most profitable company there is .. we the drivers just want to assure we get are share. Your perfectly entitled to sit around and wait on the man who says he's going to replace you within 10yrs to take care of you .

"Results matter"

You have a point. The union companies have lost when they have performed poorly - so has Con-way/XPO. Now , according to most ways you measure these things , XPO is doing better than it's competition , shouldn't that reflect in the benefits and compensation to ALL employees? Yes , there have been gains by employees but they have been offset by losses.

Why do we look at his past to determine what he'll do in the future, but we don't do that with the union?

Past actions usually indicate future results.

Why will the Union suddenly stop being a greedy corporation getting rich on the workers backs and start caring about it's members since it never has?
XPO Logistics is a multinational corporation that only answers to shareholders and investors ( and sometimes it doesn't even answer to them ) it has no morals or beliefs or responsibility to communities or people. Being multinational even limits it's accountability to governments were it operates.

Being logical about things , in terms of scale , you may have a better chance with a smaller "greedy corporation" than a larger one.
