ODFL | Come on Driver's..

If Billy saw some of the CRST trailers we get at the Coop, he'd have to use a **** kit....

When did YRC cut you guys off? I ain't seen none of them CRST trucks swerving all over the road pulling their sets in months.

Don't worry Inspector Billy is on the case!

Don't worry Dave, his hat ain't got nothing on yours!

Found no time to snitch, been so busy working.

Exactly. We have a guy that from a southern terminal that low drops trailers so low, you have to go out and crank it up, just to get the tractor under it.

You ever notice the terminals farther out from the big cities have some real dummies working for them?

Yea..it would be nice if the DRIVERS at PDX could take 5 minutes of their valuable time and put dollies away, not just drop them anywhere they like but I guess time is money so Ill help them out and keep putting them away when I can..Just too bad that we have such lazy guys...steering wheel holders or professional..I prefer the latter ....be safe

Sea ain't your mama fbn, put your stuff away!

If a driver on a pre trip notices some safety issues that could be dangerous or is dangerous, is he paid by the hour while it is being fixed? If not you might have an answer as to why they take off. Time is money. von.

Time is money. However knowingly dragging unsafe equipment down the road because you don’t get paid for shop time is a pretty disturbing reason. As professionals we are required to make sure the equipment is safe to operate

Really? 18 years city board ABF Indy. I would have to use a super computer to track the number of times I witnessed drivers doing that. Obvious air leak, or anything you can't help but notice, they had it fixed. But lights out, bald tire that would be out of service, forget it. Time is money. I can see a marker light out & go. Hell, I did that all the time in the city. But a tail, brake or turn signal light out, it was fixed or I did not pull it. A tail light or marker light is not OS. But, 1 turn signal or 1 brake light is out of service. One thing I saw all the time is pulling a gear with no rear & no light bar. DOT says if the tail or lower lights on the lead pup is blocked from view from any angle of those lights by the gear, ya got to put a light bar on it. They knew I would insist on a light bar. 2 weeks after I made my 30 day probation I let them know. Did I pull trailers with burnt out marker lights? Yes if I thought they didn't effect safety, especially the ones in the nose of the trailer. I have seen road drivers delay their Omaha or Kansas City run just to have a marker light fixed. And some times they had to go to bed for they wouldn't make it. Most would run it. Once again, time is money. And it could have a negative effect on your return load, putting you in the motel for another 12 to 24 hours. I worked there during the trailers having bulbs switched to LED lights from the manufacture. We all liked it including ABF. Less down time & I have seen the bills for the vendor to fix the lights. 80 bucks each time or more each time they came out. Mechanic went home @ 3:30. Each to his own. von.

It's paid, not a lot but it is paid.
Whoa, so all the time that I spend at the shop is paid. I wasn't aware of that. Then there's a unnamed driver that I met from California. Sliced airlines, air leaks, flat tires, his excuse it happened on the railroad tracks. Paybacks are a bitch. Payday doesn't always come on Friday. And yes, minor stuff I will fix myself. Road Rescue is notoriously slow. So yes time is money. Portland traffic can eat up time, the socialist capital of Oregon eats up time, the hillbillies in their 4 wheelers doing 45 on the freeway eat up time, lastly climbing mountains at 17 to 20 mph eat up time. You lay down, you lose money.

Speaking of equipment, I witnessed a City driver break his set, pull the front box and gear to the gear pile. He couldn't understand why the gear wouldn't move when he unhooked the pintle hook. Duh, he forgot to drain the air from the gear. SMH. Nice flat spots on those super singles. Billy's right, these new guys would never last in the old days.

Fbn is just a wild mustang that wants to run free on the prairie.

This might not be a bad idea, Flyby could get a hat like Big Dave's, open his own dispatch office, with a little luck
you and Ump could be his "dream team" drivers.

I never have been able to figure why our shops in the Pacific NW can not have a mechanic stay until most of the runs are gone for the night...How many times have you had a turn signal out or a bad tire and no one to fix it. I just have the dock swing it to another pup if I half to. Doesn't" seem like it would be too hard to have one guy in the shop until around 1 or 2 am. I know at the Purple Promise freight company we had a mechanic in our shop until midnight and at the relay/waist of time terminal in Hermiston Or, there was 1 or 2 all night.

Yeah, keep track of your start and finish in the shop and call your payroll person. They should put it in the system for you. I think it's also only subject to the $10/hr rate, but it's better than nothing.

Oh I agree. I’m just saying it’s our responsibility to ensure it’s safe. I’ve seen plenty just slap them together and go, air spewing, flat tires. A simple marker light I wouldn’t get to fussy over that either. I’m just saying a lil common sense goes along way especially if you at a terminal with a shop
