I haven't seen a sales rep in our terminal in over a month...they used to come around and try to get the "heartbeat and feel" of the market...used to ask for leads, number of shipments a particular carrier picked up.

They don't report to our terminal manager anymore and with their boss in another area, I guess they don't have to work as hard as having to report face to face each day to someone?

Anyone else notice this?

All the sales reps work for ArcBest now. So I guess you could say ABF really doesn't have any sales personnel anymore! Unless you count whatever sales calls your branch manager may make. I believe they still work for ABF.

ohhh...my bad! I guess the sales reps are too busy selling for all the ArcBest companies...The last couple of times I did see a sales rep, the reply was "not controlled here, national account, regional account, yadda yadda yadda...if that is so, why are local sales reps needed anymore?

Not carrying them on the payroll at ABF Freight should improve the bottom line then, right?

All sales reps are considered Arc Best employees & are selling all of Arc Best services to ABF customers.
ABF terminals still carry the Salesman on their pay rolls for their salary & benefits.

But they are selling far more truckload and expedited services than what justify the revenue coming out of ABF LTL for them to get a paycheck. ArcBest found a great way to show profitability for all the non-union wheeling and dealing,.........by having those overpriced whiny Union LTL terminals cover everyone else's overhead....

Great tactic just prior to contract time.......Whoever thought that up will get a couple million in a bonus check.......(from the LTL side...)

Everyone remember that when they come crying the blues with hat in hand speaking of doom & gloom. Also grieve any lost freight or moves that was historically ABF's & is now being moved by Panther or someone else. This is a violation. The Salesman at the very least in a conflict of interest. Don't let any of this slide it's up to the rank & file to keep the pressure on the company & the union

Not really ABF pays salary and expenses so ARCBEST can show a nice profit
agree....will be saddled with the expenses during the upcoming contract to make it look like the LTL is losing sooooooo much $.
Who do they think they are fooling? Today's truck drivers have to be fairly computer savvy (can't pencil whip paper work anymore), so we have the ability to communicate on such forums at this..."pay the rate or lock the gate"

Yep, they play the shell game and the teamsters play along. Woe is us.
is that the same as a ponzi scheme....I do know that Aye Bee Fuh has always played "slight of hand" with the DIRECT points shown when "marketing partners" actually service them...can we do something about those points in the next negotiations...can you image taking freight back to a shipper and tell them "we don't service that point"...wow...thoughts please?

I don't see chasing that one as being a winner for us. If the company doesn't service a point and they get freight in or out of it by some chance I say take the money and run. Now if it's a point that we do service and they decide to pass it off to a contractor, that would be a different story.

at my barn, I am the bottom road driver, ABF runs contract carriers in front of me all the time. while I sit at home. This is a weekly thing with ABF.

Sorry to hear about it and I hope things get better, either there or at your next place of employment.

Mr. Soehl doesn't have a great track record with ..."marketing points".......Not with me, anyway. We filed a grievance about ABF using interline carriers into areas right next to our terminal to deliver freight,........and lost. Mr. Soehl, at ERJAC hearings, said ABF has the right to conduct business as they see fit,.......EVEN IF it makes NO logical sense, and they are losing money by doing it.

And,.....He also said there is no such thing as a jurisdictional area......Every terminal has a list of zip codes that makes a mockery out of contractual language about jurisdiction by looking like a map made out of Swiss cheese.

We had filed a grievance about the PGH terminal running a U-Pack 85 miles south through Farmington, Pa..........a point that Greensburg ROUTINELY delivers,....less than 30 miles from the GBG terminal. Mr. Soehl said ABF had every right to do that,.......and the next week, ABF bobtailed a guy from PGH 85 miles south again to pick up the loaded U-Pack. At that time, the Greensburg terminal had a customer that we were dropping sets at in Smithfield Pa.........15 miles from the U-Pack. The reason I'm mentioning all these points is that anyone can get a map of S.W. Penna.......and see how stupid and counterproductive it was,........yet Mr. Soehl felt there was nothing wrong. Did I mention that GBG had guys who were only getting 3 days a week at that time?

So,.....I'm not sure how Mr. Soehl feels about outside carriers, jurisdiction, and job preservation.

I know that a lot of former Con-way/XPO road drivers sit at home, too, watching HapHazard Freight, Inc. run their linehaul. Best of both worlds...........move freight on someone else's truck for el-cheapo rates,......and when there's a truck wreck because El-Cheapo doesn't bother to train drivers properly, or screen them,....or make sure they have HAZ-MAT licenses,......and they endanger the public,......Well,....there's no liability involved to the company foisting the freight off on Wing'N'A Prayer Freight Lines and their marginally qualified, low-rate, low-paid, semi-enslaved employees,..............while letting the experienced, trained-properly, driver sit at home. Who cares about the motoring Public?

Profit Uber Alles!

1268 views of this thread as of right now...no one seems to have seen or talked to a rep...so, the question is still...any "views" of an Ay Bee Fuh, err, I a mean, Noah's Ark (best) sales rep?

Maybe we do need an Ark??
I am sure sales people look at this board from the comfort of their home computers...how about an answer?
