Holland | City drivers get 34 reset

It is. It’s just people don’t like a rule so they ignore it. I’ve been with YRC, Holland, and ABF in the past 10 years. The 34 hour union agreement was posted at all 3 places. People just ignore rules they don’t like.
Is the 34 hour union agreement authorized by the DOT or just the union?

That's my entire point. Nobody seems to know what the real law is because the companies all try to circumvent the law to their benefit.

As I posted earlier, the companies and the union came to an agreement not to use the 34 hour restart back in like 2008 or 2009. You can’t get a ticket from the DOT but you can get a letter and discipline from the company and the union.

Not using a 34h restart is not trying to circumvent the law. If anything, it is a bit more stringent than what the law allows....

I think the biggest problem is they all post this stuff in road driver heavy areas. The city guys are starting to push up against the max hours because the company can’t hire anyone.

You can get in trouble using 7 day recap and never hitting 60 in a 5 day workweek. Actually 52 and 53 hours and you can get in trouble.

DOT could care less about Union or Company policy. Dot man told me as long as you are with in the confines of the law we could care less what either one says,

I'm glad that I've spent most of my career as a city driver and didn't need a log. And now with my e-logs, none of this crap matters.

City men should be allowed short haul exception. Most line haul running velocity centers would fall under short haul rule as well .Everyone better wake up and know the law and forget all the other noise because end result is we the drivers are responsible for our logs, and it is our butt on the line.

I have seen city men who have driven for years and do not understand the law and do not understand the recap or restart, one guy told me the other day that he was on his 11 th hour of work and could not drive any more.

Sorry it’s not very clear.

Depends. The e log where I work will let you drive after 14 when using the 16 exception. I don't think you can ever drive after your 14th hour.

You actually can. Has to be a 5 day a week run, starting and ending at the original terminal though. I have to use it every now and then. Just can’t go over your 11 hour driving limit.

It sounds like there are a bunch of companies that create their own set of rules, which often conflict with the DOT regulations.

like doing a drop and hook, waiting for a load, unloading or reloading trailers and showing it as a break on the top line ... scabs

I use it in the city all the time. I follow what the law says. The union cant supersede the law and can kiss my ass.
I don’t care what anyone does. People are asking what the policy is, I see that sign every day with the rule. The union only has this rule to keep dues numbers as high as possible. Whoops! I mean to keep more people in good paying jobs! Lol.

If you are still working and on the street it will effect you!
Yes it can, but I'm usually not even close to any of the violations. And my e-log warns us of any potential violations ahead of time. It's on display.
I try not to even get close......and very seldom ever do.
