Holland | Louisville,ky holland terminal

So if Holland started paying everyone about 28 dollars an hour, would that fix the rumored problems in Louisville????
Maybe would help some , because UPS in Louisville is paying $35.00 hour and like 10 guys went over there and some went to Amazon !

If they went to Amazon, partner, they took a huge pay cut, unless they were dock only new hires, non CDL holders. Many think because Amazon is big, they pay big money. Their warehouses are high tech, robotic, and highly mechanized. The workers do the slave labor part, like many large retail companies.

If they are running as independent drivers, what Amazon calls Amazon Flex they can make up to $25 an hour if they are proficient running the 4 hr block they get. You can also get 2 hr block as well .. you do have to hustle doing it though.

I know guys here that are doing the 4hr blocks in 2.5 hrs - 3 hrs and are making the $25 and then some. If you get a bad block and are not proficient at running it then those figures drop. The $25 is based off of doing it in 4hrs. Now that’s the car/sport utilitie vehicle rates. If you have a sprinter van or something like that you can sign up to run routes a bit differently and those figures go up.

If you have the van you can run dedicated accounts as well as add in block rates for the small package and home. One thing they are offering with this is the opertunity for an independent to run a fleet account as well. So if you own two or more vans you can have other drivers run the routes. It’s a good opertunity for the entrepreneur to do a start up actually.

They also want to move more and more away from using UPS/FedX/& USPS for their Local delivery in markets like this.

Now I know people are going to bash this because it’s non Union and what goes along with the Union like Benies and such, but many are growing Leary of the so called security of the union and are breaking a different direction.. for owner ops and those with the entrepreneurial spirit for a low cost start up this isn’t a bad gig to get started, you can also add in other side gigs as well and have more flexibility of time and revenue then you do at a normal 9-5 corporation monster.. it’s not for all of course, but after being burned by the companies and unions some are venturing out..

Same holds true with Uber Freight and Googles convoy for those who want to go independent.. these are going to go head to head with the brokers and change that whole scenario as well.. for the O/O it’s going to in the end keep their wheels turning better than the old system and for company’s that run 30 yr old systems like we do it may in the end bury the dinosaur..

I know most can’t see it happening, but it’s coming! There are apps for every kind of job out there from landscaping —> IT work where Independents can get matched with those who need work done. And the economy is starting to adapt to it.. I drive Uber part time and speak to many people from all walks who utilize this including executives.. as I am driving them to the airport we talk about this and about how this company is run and they all point out under the current give back scenario and poorly run operations that it will not survive the changing demand and technology direction the way it is currently operating. We talk about the app on demand work as well and many are starting to utilize that over the old way as well as it cuts the major overhead that unions bring to certain aspects of the economy as well..

Adapt or fade, do you really think YRCW/Holland is in the position to do so? Heck they can’t even keep the system they have now from crashing.

Not bashing you,or your post,T,but this Amazon delivery program is more or less the same independent contractor scenario as Fed Ex Ground...All about numbers. How efficient, fast, and how many stops per hour you can safely do,without crashing of course...

It is very similar actually and it’s not bashing me one bit, I was explaining some of the scenarios they offer and I know guys who have more than one truck with ground and are doing quite well.

Latest rumor going around is that they are closing LO due to not being able to hire. Any truth to this?
If that were to happen, that's more evidence that crap is going to hit the fan come contract time.
Back in the old days, if the company did that, the union would threaten (and would do it) to shut down every terminal in the company over it. But since the union has no teeth, and the membership has no sack, I doubt that could ever happen nowadays.
It's every man for themselves.

I like your avatar NF! You mean m.o.u. time not contract time right? Only need a couple big terminals to stand with LO.....Ch and JO would be enough to make them listen.....

Don't get too confident.

Teamster driver says "Honey, we are thinking about doing a wildcat strike at work today."
Wife says, "like hell you are, we have a boatload of payments to make. You will go to work or there's the door."
Teamster driver says, "Yes honey, you're right again, where did I put my boots?"

I heard last week that yrc is thinking of having yrc drivers pickup freight for both companies at stops they are at to help you guys out down there. Then just run it through their system and deliver it for Holland....
