Which trucking regulations or actions do you think should be considered for modification or suspensi

The DOT is looking for input on what existing rules or actions should be considered candidates for replacement, modification or suspension as part of President Trump’s Executive Order 13771 (“Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs”).

The biggest argument I hear is either scrap the elog system or make the law read...paper logs or elogs and the carrier gets to decide which to use

Followed by scrap the DEF trucks and start making only Diesel trucks again

Re-Regulate.
Get rid of deregulation and let us make some money in this all consuming job........make the roads safer.....have local drivers haul the freight and sleep in the beds they are paying for.

Change HOS to 8 hours driving, 10 on duty.
What about the Old Rules that were in place OVER 50 YEARS:

10 HOURS DRIVING, 8 HOURS OFF DUTY/SLEEPER and WE SPLIT THEM UP for SAFER DRIVING!!
WE stopped WHEN WE WANTED TO, like Early Morning and Early Evening "Rush Hours".
WE had LESS WRECKS, as well more attentive Drivers PLUS there was no such invasion called "sleep apnea".
WE do such like WE USED TO: PAPER LOGS!!
NO RESTRICTION on RESETTING Hours Of Service and NO pointless "2 mornings of 01:00 to 05:00 hrs".

The more the government meddles in affairs they have NO BUSINESS, the more these affairs get fumbled.
DeRegulation was a prime example.

Oh yeah, if Diesel Particulate Fluid/Diesel Exhaust Fluid is so great for Diesel Engines, why is no such application for poorly designed and innefficiently burning Gasoline Engines???
It has seemed Strange, Odd, and Peculiar that there are vastly LESS Diesel Engines on the Planet compared to Gasoline Engines, yet Diesel Engines BURN most efficiently while Gasoline Engines do not.
Right, let's pick on the smaller population.

Under the Current stupidity called "E.L.D. mandate", our Fumbling Feral Buffoons have decided (probably over drinks and kinks) to eliminate such mandate for, of all things, RENTAL TRUCKS until 2022.
http://www.livetrucking.com/fmcsa-announced-limited-exemption-rental-trucks/
Here then is the SOLUTION:
Just Rent Trucks to solve the e.l.d. problem for 5 years or until the feral buffoons bump their heads together and rescind the previous changes.
Right, It was worded so that anyone with a 2000 model year Truck or OLDER was not to abide by the "new rules", so now WE have a extra kicker.
Doesn't that just get ya all warm and fuzzy?

CHEERS!!

No self cert for physical. I'll be standing at the DOT on my day off at least an hour before they open to show them my new medical card. Why can't the doctor who is approved by them send it to them? Sick of blowing in tube for smoking...the latest commie rule designed to take my job away. Nobody needs to breath like that to work unless you are deep sea diving without a tank.
I'm sick of the whole physical, as a matter of fact. I had a bicuspid valve replaced(birth defect)...now I only get one year certification....and every year I must first, have tests run by cardiologist. Then have a second appointment so he can read results and sign off. Then the actual physical appointment.....now due to my job needing me, I must self certify with DOT.....that's 4 appointments...just for physical.
If I had to renew my Hazmat...I'd need at least a day for the test and fingerprinting and background check....I've lived in the same area forever and work for same employer for over 12 years.....How many times must I pay and have fingerprints and background checks run?

More than an immigrant I guess.

I just arrived at my local DOT to show them my new physical card. 20 minutes after they opened. Around 150 people already seated......YIPPEE!!!!!
NOTHING BETTER TO DO ON MY SATURDAY. SELF-Cert of DOT physical and the whole physical sucks.......a CDL License is COMMUNISM........It'll be hours because it looks like the UN here ......25 different nationalities who hold up the line because they don't speak English...the melting pot sucks.

Total hours self-certifying my DOT physical(this means just showing the DOT the new card your Doctor passed you on so they can update your CDL records).........3.75...........that is with driving also.
Total hours to actually get the necessary appointments to pass my physical and do the appointments......................about 10 with the testing appointment....the appointment getting specialist OK....and getting the actuall physical........this includes drive time...I did not include drive time for thephysical for the company doc is right down the street from my job.

So total hours with driving to do the whole CDL physical was about 14 hours pf my time this year.......and one $35 copay.

Too much time.

Luckily my CDL or Hazmat doesn't renew this year or it would probably get up to around 20 hours or so.........................for the kind of money we make????? I start to question wether it is worth it......and the HZMAT with fingerprints and background check costs around $175 I think.....way too much and the renewal is also for the regular class A.

I sent all 4 pages of my recent (April '17) D.O.T. Physical to the appropriate Division in Raleigh (NC) office on me phone. Is such not a option in your state?

My last D.O.T. Physical, I DID NOT need "blow in a tube" because I'm a tobacco user. Cone Health did not require such, while United Health (where I went the previous time) did or /does.
You do know you do not have to go to any facility your company dictates as if/when you find a place you like, just go there.

Wait a minute: 1st paragraph you stated
No self cert for physical
then 2nd paragraph
I must self certify with DOT.....
, so which is it?? (do you happen to proofread before posting or were both inputs intentional?)

Sorry mate but EVERY TIME one needs a Background Check, one needs Fingerprinting and all the aggravation it entails because possibly through a accident (or self mutilation), fingerprints can change.
When I had the Hassleus Maximus endorsement, sometimes for the Fingerprinting and Background Check we had to travel to 2 places and it was rare that both places were accessible in one day.

All those "inconveniences and hoops" are simply what's needing be done to do what needs be done to insure continuity of what one wants/needs to do.

The 1st sentence is my opinion which I think needs deregulating.
The 2nd is what sucks about having to do it.

We need to go to our company doctor...and I think that is part of the regulations.....it all must correspond somehow....the company...ourselves...the DOT approved doctor....somehow it all must line up in some system or other...either a state system or a federal system....I think it is the federal system......we can go to another company doctor for our physical.....like some of our guys choose to go to another terminals company doctor.....because they dislike our local company doctor.....but I'm pretty sure it must be a company doctor...not one of our own choosing, which is not their doctor.

And yes, we do have the option to send our copy of the DOT Physical to Harrisburg DOT..........but I'm glad that I did not because I don't trust the stuff of not dealing with humans.......luckily for me that I went to the DOT yesterday, because I had listened to my TM who 'absolutely knew' that I had a 15 day grace period between expiration of old physical card and SelfCertifying with state......He was wrong.......I asked him 4 times if he was correct on that......because I wanted to go have it done.....but he said "you have 15 days to do it...I need you to work now..do it another time".............anyways, at the DOT they told me that my DOT card expired and all my endorsements are dropped.....but to sit and wait whilst they fax the new card over to Harrisburg........a half hour and $5 charge later...I was Self certified and all endorsements were reinstated..............If done through email or fax on my own...I'd be driving with an expired CDL..but carrying a 1 Year new Physical card.

Update for YOU and your Fellow Employees:
Question 4: Does §391.43 of the FMCSRs require that physical examinations of applicants for employment be conducted by medical examiners employed by or designated by the carrier?

Guidance: No.
https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/391.43

In Other Words:
NO COMPANY SHALL DICTATE WHICH DOCTOR EMPLOYEES MUST SEE.

Union or not, there is no Federal or State requirement to see a company doctor especially if, for Tobacco users, they want to push the no supporting documented "breathing test".

Regardless of WHERE a D.O.T. EXAM is conducted,
....it must all correspond somehow....
and
....it all must line up in some system or other....
Once You have the completed Document(s), it HAS all Corresponded and lined up.

By the way: Unless your T.M. is a Licensed Professional in D.O.T. matters (like a Full Grown Bear with a D.O.T. Qualified patch on his uniform), he knows not what he claims he knows, so he's presumably just a glorified recruiter and they're just a dime, correcting for stagflation= $.13, a dozen.

Believe it or not the complaints about elogs vs paper are by far the most.
If you happen to know any motor carrier inspectors with the state police in your home area, ask them what is the most violated regulation they see when they stop a truck... I will bet it is behind logs, not current to last change of duty,or unfinished pages from previous several days, thus also putting the driver out of service....

Sorry, but you would lose your bet.
Most inspectors say the main violation is not saying "over" after a CB transmisssion and one inspector mentioned
he would like to hear the "Good Buddy Phrase" used more often.
He said the J B Hunt and Swift drivers were the most proficient users.

What is a CB transmission?? Is that like a 10 speed????
