I'm not sure what to expect. I have an upcoming interview with a heavy hauling outfit that hauls mostly transformers, construction equipment, cranes and sometimes telephone poles. I have never interviewed for a heavy hauling position but I have definitely done the work. Just looking for encouragement, advice, etc. What have you got for me? One last thing. I had a minor 0-10mph speeding ticket in 2014 in my personal vehicle. Is that typically a problem with most companies? They never mentioned tickets in the application. I'm certain the question will come up.

personal vehicle or not, that speeding ticket very well may come up, BY THEM, DO NOT volunteer that! a ticket like that IS NOT MINOR!
when and IF it does come up, explain to the fact and point, then shut up.
other than that, if there is a way to prove that you actually did some of that work, bring it up, BUT they may make a call to verify.
I said I have never interviewed for a heavy haul position, but I worked for Anderson Trucking heavy haul. I definitely know what I'm doing. Worries me a bit because some companies will not hire a new hire with any tickets. Getting harder and harder to find someone that has a perfect record with my experience though.

I don't see that speeding ticket as a major ticket but as pro1 says, answer questions, offer nothing more. Only they can answer if that ticket is a problem for them or not. Good luck on your interview and let us know how you make out.

If the company you apply at is CSA compliant ? Your PSP will show every traffic ticket for the past 5 years
Did a little snooping to figure out what I am up against. The manger interviewing me appears to be a "Man's Man." Has lots of pictures of yard equipment, drinking with his wife and Sports/Football pictures. Guess I am the total opposite, but I wonder how you relate to someone like that in an interview? Should I wear a college football tie for his favorite team lol? Maybe that is overdoing it a bit.

he's not looking for a college grad, or a varsity player. he is looking for a driver.
as stated, dress cleanly, be clean, and maybe either shaved or WELL TRIMMED.
only answer the questions ask, NEVER volunteer more than that.

In this day and age it will go a long way if you can stress competence, punctuality and reliability. As odd as it may sound that is all we can really offer over another prospective hire but even odder is how rare those characteristics are in a worker anymore. Be early for your interview (not hours, just 10 minutes or so) and stress how important the above characteristics are. Are you ever late? Well...if the highway is closed it's out of my hands, if it's raining or snowing I have to leave earlier.

I copy the bit about not being Sports infused and all the times interviewers asked me about sports I just told 'em I've no interest in THOSE sports.
The sports I like: mountaineering, caving, hiking, are usually not directly televised.
You have Experience in that field, demonstrate by knowledge of the Lingo.
They'll probably ask about what types of equipment and products hauled, roads driven (like in the Hillbilly for example), Ice, Snow, etc., Equipment used, maybe transmission(s) preferred, 15, 18, 21 and other industry related stuff.
That 0-10 over ticket in yer P.O.V., how close to either end?
I once, in early '13, received a 10 over ticket in me car and I hired a Traffic Lawyer to handle the case because a CLEAN CDL is most important. After $500.00 for him and small court cost, it became something like defective equipment with zero points.
(a minor fabrication) You were simply rolling down a hill and didn't notice the increase because of light traffic passing me and clear weather (day or night).
LOSE the "college sports tie" idea since you have no affiliation (truth) and don't need to "create" a affiliation (lie). (Possible question for you: What about when joe schmo lost two toes on a foot during that goal attempt back in 2013? Remember that game and which foot was it?)
Wear a nice Tie and long sleeved shirt and nice pants with nice shoes, no reason to get all gussied up unless it's your preference.

I just wore a nice shirt with black pants. I answered all the questions correctly. The key thing I heard from the interview was that the previous driver "retired." That tells you a lot about the quality of the job. I guess they deliver transformers with something like this:

I don't know much about heavy haul but I do know that their travel times can be restricted and some sitting around waiting for the clock. Didn't you go to school for something and change careers?
Yeah, still in school unfortunately. Trying to weasel my way into working for the local power company.
I really thought I had this one in the bag. Got the denial email Friday after a Wednesday interview. During the interview they said they would get back to me in 2 weeks. I have had this happen before where I got the denial email from the automated system and then interviewed the next day. Maybe I should contact the supervisor by phone and ask about my status? I mean, how many qualified heavy haulers would you find in a big city? They have a hell of a time just finding people with 1 year experience where I work.

a few things come to my mind over the denial.
1) one would be they are not self insured and those tickets you got, showed up and their insurance companies denied you for employment.
2) you do not say "when in 2014" you got the ticket, but there might be a time frame when they would not matter to the insurance company.
3) the interviewer as you said is a "man's man", that doesn't mean he gets the final say, if the insurance company denied you, that' the end of it right there.
4) i cannot find anywhere, where you say how many years/miles of any CLASS A driving you have under your belt, maybe just by that, you don't qualify.
5) you can call someone at that company and ask why you were denied, but they don't have to actually tell you.
i was denied a job and called and was told just that, "we can't tell you".....
best of luck, maybe try another heavy haul company and get some additional experience there.
but be forewarned, that ticket may be what's holding you back.
check with your state DMV when they will fall off the record, (but they will still be on your PERMANENT driving record.)
some states, tickets and accidents (like my state) fall off after 3 years. some states, it's 5 years.
you may just have to wait till that time frame expires in your state.
here's "the rub".
even IF your state, they fall off after 3 years??
many applications ask for the last 5 YEARS.
what i always did here, was NEVER mention anything, PAST your states "fall off time frame"
but that does not mean, any company can stop at that. if they really want to, they can call up on your entire lifetime record!
