ABF | Anybody seen any ABF sales reps lately?

1268 views of this thread as of right now...no one seems to have seen or talked to a rep...so, the question is still...any "views" of an Ay Bee Fuh, err, I a mean, Noah's Ark (best) sales rep?

Maybe we do need an Ark??
I am sure sales people look at this board from the comfort of their home computers...how about an answer?
Quite a few people have seen a sales rep. In small terminals it’s always the manager. I see one and talk to one almost every day. As do all the city guys. As for a national account rep, good luck with that one. They are nonexistent like you said.

And in a lot of little terminals, the manager/salesman wears a lot of "hats"........It all depends on how,......competent,...and "efficient"......he or she is as to whether customers see him/her on a regular basis.

I'm sure there are some ......."managers"......who are telling their regional V.P.s that the employees are......."unruly and difficult",........the equipment is a..."constant nightmare and headache"..........vendors are ......."Shady and their invoices have to be constantly checked..."

This buys an .....incompetent...(Lazy is a harsh word...).....manager an awful lot of seat time in that big cushy chair in the office.

I'm sure many managers are going to bristle at that description.... But the proof of the pudding, as it were,.........is going to your same customers on your peddle run day after day,...and having them tell you they haven't seen a sales rep for ABF.......in years.....

You're looking at their dock, and FedEx and A.Duie Pyle has thirteen or fifteen skids of outbound daily,........and ABF has 250 lbs. on a half pallet twice a week.......

And at half our rate.
maybe that is why we only get 1/2 pallet...

After the last contract fiasco,........all the non-Unions raised their hourly rates to at least a dollar an hour more than ours. In some cases, a couple of dollars an hour more. They did that to put the final nail in the coffin about Union organizing.

But,.....The non-Unions having the ability to raise wages substantially,.....tells me there is an awful lot of "overhead" money in freight to work with as far as wages and benefits go. UPS Freight has no problem paying about $27 an hour top rate,....and they're kicking ABF's butts' in volume and pallet count. UPS themselves is paying......$32?....$34?.... an hour to feeders and full-time package car drivers,....with much better benefits than ours.

So,.....did our wage cut merely fund ArcBest's expansion into non-Union truckload and expedited freight? We all know it certainly funded two new corporate headquarters for ArcBest and Panther,..........They couldn't wait for the ink to dry before they started breaking ground.........How does a company plead abject poverty and the need for it's employees to give up a substantial portion of their wages and benefits,...........and then go and build a ground-up structure for their executive staff,.........(....if I need to remind anyone,.......no one there at the corporate headquarters touches, moves, or delivers any freight.........)........?

In ..."bad"...economic straits, wouldn't the "old" corporate headquarters done well enough until the company got back on it's feet to the point where they could restore the wages and benefits back to the Labor force?............(.......The people who actually DO, move, touch, and deliver freight....)?

Tyson Johnson and Gordon Sweeton,......Ol' Fric and Frac,.........were completely oblivious to ABF's motives.........(..Or, were they? Sometimes "stupidity" has it's virtues, especially when you can avoid that uncomfortable "responsibility" question...) In hindsight,....ABF/ArcBest snookered a little more than half of their employees....and maybe or maybe not, with the complicity of our so-called "leadership". One can only hope Mr. Soehl has studied the whole 2013 contract debacle,....including the made-up "YRC Buying ABF" dissemination of facts,.....and is proceeding into the contract talks with his eyes wide open, and with the knowledge that our corporate leaders are completely capable of producing "Fake News" of their own to sway a contract vote.

PREcisely!! Snookered is probably the best word you could use here. I can’t wait for negotiations to really get rolling. Meantime, I’ll just pull my phone out (while I’m driving), plug my earphones in (while I’m driving), dial up my favorite iTunes playlist (while I’m driving), and listen to good music (while I’m driving), while I’m driving.

I'm sure there's some overhead wiggle room, hell OD is paying $27.25 topout in the city and $.65 a mile on the road and still turning in record profit numbers. If they did the right thing and paid overtime they still would probably be operating in the high 80s. The thing with UPS is there's so much less competition in parcel. FedEx and USPS are the only competition, so UPS can dictate what they charge to move parcels. And when you can stack all them boxes to the ceiling in a trailer, well just watch the money roll in.
