XPO | Our final 10 yrs

It also says that it would cap pre-tax contributions, not total contributions. I'm against it either way but the politicization of every little thing to try to move the football an inch one way or the other when nothihg gets done, nobody's mind gets changed, and those in power are the only ones who benefit. It's getting old.
Pretax contribution are the biggest advantage to a 401k. I don't think anyone here would dispute that.

And if they pre tax this .There is not much incentive any more.So much for 401 k. The republican congress says there is 5 Trillion pre tax dollars of contributions every year , The government wants there cut.

No, definitely wouldn't dispute that. And I would be dead set against a cap on pretax contributions. I was listening to the news last night (not fake) and there was clear disapproval of this "plan".

I have to disagree with you on that one. I'm not a partisan person but the Republicans have no good policy for the workers and the middle class.
What middle class? It feels to me that there is getting to be an awful big gap between the haves and the have nots. We get 8 years of Democrats and then 8 years of Repubicans back and forth back and forth and the gap just keeps getting wider and wider. IMO we should try something different, anything different, it can't be a whole lot worse. I am no expert, but I always liked the idea of some sort of flat tax with the first so many thousand not taxed at all to help the poor and then you do not file taxes at the end of the year and there is no IRS. But that is probably crazy talk?

I got a funny idea, let's try the capitalist system, return to taxing profit, ::shit:: can free trade and raise tariffs. Let us not tax the workers and their property. We can even negotiate some excise taxes, but what we are under now is complete bunk. We have been in a slow ride into a socialist system, the transformation is almost complete.

The Democrats seek to destroy the middle class also. They promote the communist ideology, there is no middle class in a communist system. There is only have, and have nots. Their end game is the same as the Republicans. One gang, two factions vying for control of the same end result.

I'm fully in favor of that, make it simple, lower the overall rate for everyone, no deductions, no tax returns, no IRS. Think of the money we could save as a nation simply in eliminating the beurocracy of the IRS. They could reduce all of our tax percentages by 5% in just that.

Less government I think is not the answer, responsible government is ,Good luck with that one.No one plays by the rules.

The proposed changes to 401k contribution made the major news networks this morning. I urge everyone to contact your politician and raise hell about this.

This is a Republican proposal to pay for the Trump tax cut for the wealthy.
The current maximums are $ 18,000 for those under 50 and $24,000 for those over 50. The proposed new limit is only $2,400.
This will severely affect our already lacking retirement plan if it goes into affect.

It's amazing that so many people are blind to the plan of half our political leaders thinking the ones they agree with are looking out for us.

I wonder how many people are contributing the maximum. I never did, but I consistently contributed, and I'm doing well 4 years into retirement.
