Red, back in the late 50s, early 60s RTL aquired several outfits that ran the boxes, called Tachograph.
They ran a paper 24hr disc that recorded speed, rpm, and stop times, after these units were put in service RTL
never ran a disc in one as I recall.
They claimed the disc in court could be more harmful than good.
Guess these were similar to your "black box"
Exactly...and the forward facing cameras for us, and all of the cameras for others, will prove to do the same seeing as how we’ve already witnessed some dangerous and egregious driving in the videos we’ve watched. Unfortunately, the cameras and other systems are here to stay because they’re needed in exchange for the passing of 33 footers by Congress.

"You old Carolina reject", like I said, Ryder never ran discs, but I bet you know how to heat a small wire "red hot' and
poke it thru the plastic cover, block the needle so it won't record over 55 mph.
People like you give us good rule abiding drivers a bad rep.
"Now you ain't gonna believe this crap", but if the bulb burned out, a dispatcher or city driver rode along, held a flashlight
for us to observe our speed. "over"

Cassens, Anchor hauled GM
So did Complete, Cassens don't sound familiar, just can't remember, it's an old age thing, I guess.
Motor Convoy hauled Fords, we picked at those guys a lot.
Also had Signal Delivery Ser. they were Sears Roebuck haulers.

Mr. breeze "you pld HENNIS turncoat" let me see there was KAT kenowsha auto transport/complete/c/f.j.botell/anchor/leaseway/cassens/jack cooper/allied/nu-car carriers/pts/e&l/hadley/pts/ Thats all I can think off right now any help on others

Kenowsha sounds faliliar, but with my memory, I wouldn't bet the farm.
The car haulers and CXS people had a lot of poker players, did more playing than sleeping.
Our guys always followed the rules and did not participate, or drink, just followed the rules.

I never claimed any of the aforementioned would stop accidents, those are your words...although the numbers suggest they do. The “cameras and other junk”, as you called them, are in place to appease Congress in exchange for the passing of 33 foot pups, period!! You obviously haven’t been keeping up with the 33 foot pup debates...

As for the aforementioned being for “the company’s liability” as you claimed, you obviously weren’t around back in the AF days when our “red racers” were outfitted with “little black boxes” in an attempt to exonerate the drivers/company during accidents...turns out those “little black boxes” became a liability all right, costing AF hundreds of millions if not billions when they were forced to settled out of court!! Those little black boxes didn’t last long and they were removed from our equipment!!

You can try to justify all the cameras and other crap all you want and even try to claim that Congress cares what we have in our trucks in regards to getting the 33 footers passed but it's just not true. Show me proof if it is.

So, how did that red hot wire trick for them?
The Sangamo speed-o-graph had two other needles. The one at the very top would rat out people trying to cheat.

Have no idea, we never ran discs in ours, when Ryder sold Northeastern, we got their IHCs with the clocks
Drivers said they blocked a speed indicator by burning a hole in the shield to block needle, don't think these had but one
needle, not sure.

I ran wheels, tach and speed both.
If you tried to block the speed needle, the outermost needle would get you. It measured miles driven. All they had to do was count miles driven in a time block.

These were 1953 or 54 vintage, once we got them they never saw another disc.
Have no idea how they worked.

We just had them in the trucks never ran any wheels or graph's must have at one time before I got there. And I know Mr. Breeze that your right you guys always followed the rules (block the doors open so you could find out who had the beer and games going on) don't know anything about thati

I see you still haven’t learned to comprehend!! I’ve not tried to “justify” anything, actually quite the contrary.
Congress has denied the use of 33’s due to “safety” concerns, the cameras and collision mitigation systems are the company’s ways of combatting such safety concerns in an attempt to convince Congress that we are safe enough to pull them.
My point is if you or anyone else was told anything different concerning the use of the CMS or cameras it was a flat out lie, they’re only here in order to get the 33’s.

blah blah blah if we want some lies we know who to talk to or in this case the puppet spewing company talking points. All the stuff you mentioned if it doesn't make us safer in the eye's of congress and they turn the 33 footers down i guess all the gadgets will be taken out of the trucks right? :scratchhead::clappy:
