SAIA | Decision making day

But takes longer to make accurate follow up shots on target. I'll stick with modern 9mm in a Glock 19 and Glock 43 for concealed carry. I prefer Federal HST in 147 grain standard pressure. I do carry a .40 caliber Glock 22 as a sidearm when hog huntin'.

I have a Glock 19 9mm but I still prefer my little shield for conceal

I heard a Canadian court (Quebec) ordered Sysco to take the driver facing cameras out of their trucks. Any truth to that?
Doing a little playing around today I've found that Swift removed their driving facing cameras awhile back. They kept the forward facing camera intact. I have no issue with that. Here's a copy of their statement to their drivers
"Our Drivers spoke and we listened!

Tomorrow, we are remotely turning off the recording function of DriveCam inward-facing cameras in all Swift trucks. We have thoughtfully considered our Driver feedback and know there is constant discontent with the capture of in-cab video.

However, we also know that the DriveCam outward-facing event recorders have been instrumental in providing Swift with significant cost savings and coaching opportunities, by serving as an objective witness in significant events. For those reasons, the outward-facing event capture will remain intact.

Effective tomorrow, Drivers may obscure the inward-facing lens of their DriveCam device – as long as they do not harm the lens or unit in any way. The new DriveCam Driver Policy is now posted on all portals and may be requested by e-mailing [removed]. All questions should also be sent to [removed].

Feedback is a gift and we’re thankful to be able to act on ways to deliver a better life to our Drivers and Employees.

Thank you."

If Swift had problems companies that go to far with it will have problems getting and keeping drivers as well in time.

My problem isn't so much with the cameras. It's how they have weaponized them that bothers me. Immediate suspensions with no warnings. And not everyone has a camera in their truck which makes things worse. Not everyone is held to the same standard.

Unfortunately, that is a big problem area for Saia. And maybe other companies are just as guilty. A policy/procedure needs to be fair and equal for all. Otherwise, chaos...

When DriveCam was first rolled out I picked up on some ambiguity in some of the answers we received. Now I see why. Just a learning tool? It appears not.

It may just be me but my TM and others in management where I am are very laxed on this whole camera infraction deal I've had 3 or 4 videos mostly following distance even though I was 5+ seconds from the vehicle in front but it seemed to just be don't get so close now get outta here and that was it maybe it's due to the lack of drivers we currently have and lack of applicants to replace me

The facts are following distance isn't what they deem a major offense. Get a rolling stop and it's an immediate suspension with no warning. I won't rehash this other than to say a coalition is forming to address the lack of equal treatment on suspensions. We are in a wait and see mode right now.

Yeah hopefully soon everything be on an even playing field. I know 1 thing for us to be doing sum hiring at quite a few barns at this time of year only shows how many drivers exited and few entered

And since we work at the same terminal we really see how it isn't a level playing field. Drivers coming and going the terminal with their headsets on. I have some very interesting videos that should open some eyes in due time. On the yard and on the streets these videos will blow your mind.

Before I left, th big double standard was tobacco. It was pretty rampant. Drivers, dock workers, supervisors. Very confusing to have a no tobacco policy and your TM is sitting there with a spittoon in his desk. Again, if it’s a policy...

Great example!!! I will say the cameras have cut down the tobacco use in the new tractors but haven't eliminated it especially smokeless tobacco. But then you see drivers driving down the road smoking and with headsets on in the trucks without cameras. It's more than a double standard. It's a form of discrimination. When you hop in a truck and it reeks of cigarette smoke and snuff is stuck to the side of the door of the truck it's pretty obvious what's going on. Things are very selective here and not random. I'm not here to get anyone in trouble but I'm sick of the blatant disregard of common decency and respect. If you want to throw rocks then fine but I suggest you not live in a glass house. Cameras and recordings are everywhere these days and not in just company trucks and they can be very convincing when people are in denial.

You have no collective bargaining agreement,It's not fair because they want it that way.

The Union is not the answer to the camera issue. ABF's last contract was worded in such a way that would allow the company to install cameras in trucks if they want to. Ask ABFer if you don't believe me. A collective bargaining agreement is only good if the Union is willing to go to bat for you. The Teamsters have shown time and time again they will not. How much of that 15% have you guys got back? Just wait until the next contract negotiations. They will cave in typical Teamsters style and you will probably lose another 5% plus be made to contribute to your healthcare. You will never see that 15% back. The Teamsters are worthless and as I've said many times. Any upside is far outweighed by the downside.

Just remember,They can do what they want when they want to whoever they want and that includes you ,when you fall out of favor with your boss. There's nothing you can do! !Deal with it .No one can help you.

In the year 2020, it's going to take 20 years to get free Healthcare for Saia employee's because they can do what they want and when they want. What can a collective bargaining agreement do for you?

That's going to become a reality for sure. Only a matter of time based on the current status of healthcare in this country. The problem is that Saia will make this decision and wait until the most inopportune time to announce it. Then, the people with 9.5 years with the company are going to have to take a hard look at where they are and make some choices. Take it from me: health insurance is not cheap. And, it's the law.

Wouldn't you rather fight than switch. That's a choice you guys will have to make at some point in time.Bargain on your own and see where it gets you or put your heads together.
