XPO | PTO and Points

Starting early last year we were told any time taken off will be charged PTO if you have it to spare. It use to be if you were offered a CC day, you would be asked if you would like to take PTO hours, to put some change in your pocket. FMLA and sick days were the same. The writing was on the wall when the corporate office slid their salami down the throats of the Greys, and told them, "you are selling all your PTO hours fifty cents on the dollar". Now we can not bank hours like we use to and save them up for a rainy day. With not enough drivers to spare, getting any PTO is a challenge if you did not bid it before the new year. We were told that it was due to a "change in laws". Funny thing is, the FEDEx barn down the street has vacation separate from PTO. Plus the more hours they work, the more PTO they earn. Did they just lower the starting PTO accrual from 2.3 hours a week to 2.0? We were also told we could no longer go into the negative on PTO.

We have drivers that have been in the hole for years, due to personal reasons (life does not stop for the freight). We lost our guaranteed vacation because we were told to many people were abusing PTO. So yes, if it comes down to it, you are just gonna have to tell the kids "sorry, I have no vacation time to go on that trip to DisneyLand, maybe next year, if I do not get sick or burn hours on CC days". It is not like you get to spend any time with them since you are working fourteen hours a day overnight, so they won't really miss you.

This issue alone is one of the greatest obstacles to overcome as a "newbie" to this company, and one of the main reasons why new drivers are not retained. When drivers ask me if XPO is a good place to work, I always tell them about this practice and it quickly dissuades them. I always tell them try FEDEx for the money, Old Dominion for the peace of mind.

The ability to utilize negative PTO for employees hired before 2011 will end after 2018. If you want time early 2019, you better roll it over and don't get sick or injured.

Also, personnel will be using the "PTO calculation" to dertermine if you will have enough time to schedule your future week. If the calculation says you won't have enough time, you will be denied.

How long before they just even out all the bennies of everyone to smooth things out? Equal everything so nobody's mad? (Except the OT.)
I think it sooner than we know.

I thought that was starting this year.

They can change policy any time they want as long as they stay within state and federal laws. Change a rule Monday and change it back Friday it’s there choice.

That's one thing that I lost - sort-of is my PTO
Acurral being there over 20 years. But on the other hand, straight forward vacation time now and when it's slow , not a problem getting off when you want or need it. No points just Company convenience days. So I guess that from what I am reading it's went from bad to worse.

You are exactly dead on right. Except, if you are working under a CBA. Then, a whole different ball game. von.

It could happen.

So if you're a bottom line haul driver, and you don't get a run, they are making you use pto time? If so, I think hr might have something to say about that.
Well if they want to keep drivers they might want to rethink this. We have had LH driver sit at least 1 to 2 day a week for a month last winter and he left and he had the chose of CC or PTO. A driver that keep sat sitting at home will look for other work.

Oh, yes, points are handed out by the terminal manager, at his discretion. Some guys get them, others don't when they call off. Don't count on the personal supervisor, they are the TM lap dog.

I agree. Evening out the benefits packages across the whole of the company. Likely something they would want to do. That's probably why it's not uniform everywhere right now, it's on it's way to getting there. We keep forgetting this is a massive conglomerate. Things don't happen in an instant everywhere let alone the same instant. Changes will continue to come.

I tried FMLA Road and they still took my PTO

I am very sorry to hear this. Had it been me. I would have been quit/fired on the phone when they told me I didn't have any vacation for my vacation. I wouldn't be back until the next Monday. And if they didn't want me working there any more, that's their decision.

Which everyone knew would happen. Nothing is happening that everyone didn't assume would happen within the first week of realizing that we had been bought. Many drivers have been through these situations more than once over the years.
