It's nearly that time of year again.

Let me start by looking for a positive. Does anyone out there expect to add runs or start times? Anybody?

The recurring theme seems to be less of everything equals more profit. Officially , Director of Operations said more flex is needed and less hard start times in this neck of the woods.

What do you expect from your terminal manager when bid sheets come out?

Same linehaul bids, two or three Sterlings this year (that’s new). Less early starts in the city. Not sure is any drivers wil be working the inbound.

We cant add runs or drivers don't have trucks for them to drive
Though I do see having less early city times and more later times maybe even more on the flex board

We are expecting a calamity. Lack of drivers and equipment leads us to believe that there will be less of everything. Many of us this year are far more interested in what will be offered to bid on, than we are what others will be bidding. Shrinking and cutting, clipping and pruning. Less, less and less.

We were told the 85% board is no longer in place

Meaning that they will open up the flex board by how much ? For a while Con-way tried that. Our terminal had a 30% flex board for two years ? I think ? People actually bid the flex board because they were so high on such a big board that they were coming in super early everyday. See, changing the number of people on the flex board doesn't actually change much if you still have the same amount of work to do and the same amount of people to do it. It just changes the numbers we have to write down on our bids to get what we want.

Regarding city bids, it will be a couple more late start times at the cost of a couple of early start times because of freight coming late most days of the week. I don't look to be getting an earlier start time than I have now because we cannot seem to increase our driver pool. We have a couple of guys retiring, new guys in training and one has already quit. Also have at least one jr guy/yr quitting for the competition. As to road bids, I haven't a clue.

It seems really messed up that bids get subtracted for the city P&D because cut times are not enforced or taken seriously at the origin service centers. Also cut times at FACs not enforced/non existent.

Sooooo , instead of fixing the problems with linehaul , the FACs , and at the origin service centers , XPO pushes back the start times of P&D to wait for the freight which SHOULD be at the destination service centers already.

Circle of life. Pushing back P&D start times only makes things worse. And the problems are well known by management yet no one seems able to fix them. I guess it's easier to do something wrong than to work and do something right that fixes the problems.

Do other employers treat their drivers like this ? Not according to all the guys that made the jump. I have heard one bad story, where a guy wishes he would have stayed. And really, it's just because he is so lazy and there is zero accountability here, so he got adjusted to it and got his system was shocked by being expected to do something. Not that he was even asked to do anything crazy. Just that he was " encouraged " to frakking do something.

I have been linehaul for the last eight years. I will be night linehaul again this year. Bid sheet is not something I worry about. This is a great company to work for.

Sounds like you are high enough on the board to not care about anything. Just take your two and go.

Call the home office tomorrow they have been trying to reach you. The rumor is they would like to clone you .Hurry!

At my barn, non FAC, outbound is normal closed down by 2130 if not earlier. On night I was talk to the FOS and he was looking at the surrounding barns outbound numbers and one of them still had over 200 motor moves left at 2130. At that same barn we had a LH driver that was via through to his FAC wait for almost 4hrs for his loads.
The problem is just not with LH but SC that don't get the LH drive out by dispatch times. The other problem is the roadside sleepers. I see it every night except Friday night. Most of the LH guys at my barn are back by 0900 with a late one every once in awhile. I do think most FAC do what they can to get the LH out on time but when you are waiting on a LH sleeper it screws everything up.

Look at it this way how pissed would you if you hired a contractor and you came home and they were sleeping in you living room

What ever happened to cut times ? In the city. Off the outbound. Out of the FAC ? What ever happened to cut times ?
