I've done both, but I don't remember what P&D is like and I'm tired of nights. Can y'all help me make a decision? I'd hate to make a regretful move. Linehaul, easy as it gets work wise BUT... winter weather is always worse, daily living schedule is always screwed up, 330 am head nods, losing half of Saturday cause your asleep, forever tired.. Help me weigh in the p&d side

You just answered your own question...

I get it working nights isn't probably the easiest. I think it would be hard on family as well, especially getting in that truck on Friday evening.

On the flip side though I believe most make more money than p&d with less stress. Also, depending on the company your seniority might be a advantage to change your bid without dropping to the bottom, kind of a lateral move.

after i got off the long haul crap, every job i ever had after that was nights. line haul, or drop off's. never would i have wanted day time driving anymore. nights, at the very least i can make any appointments i need for the daytime, like doctors, dentists, barber shop, and toe nail clipping.

days to me make the big sucking sound.

Very easy
Line haul is where you have to make the run no matter what the weather is and if the weather gets worse on the return ? Your screwed
P&D or local is not all that great either
. Big corporate is buying up the mom and pop companies that used to pay very well but those days are vanishing when corporate can keep an ad on the internet with the rip off pay they offer.

If I am correct, you are Pyle. How about the hybrid. Swaps. Or maybe look into one of our dedicated accounts
I am a swap guy. Sweet gig don't get me wrong, it is a real sweet gig actually. I'm just tired of the hours really. My concern besides the running like a madman all day is the hours. I average 13-14 a day linehaul and I need that to pay the bills but it seems like p&d gets that also. I got the green light to switch, but it's a tough decision. Ive been a linehaul guy for years.

Just look carefully at what the p&d guys do in your barn. They work their butts off. And where they go. I get it with the time of day. obviously, what would your start time be? if its 0900 or later, is the change worth it?

I basically did combination city work for 36 years. Dock and driving. Depended on your starting time and seniority. Eight years at a small carrier and 28 years at Roadway Express. I worked the inbound dock on midnights starting out at Roadway when I was younger and happy to have been hired by the Big R. P&D in the city running the same area every day is enjoyable. The more you run your area the easier it gets. I finally fell into working swing shift. 1600 until 0030. Easy end of the day deliveries and working the OB dock. I retired eight years ago. Now at age 66 I have arthritis in both of my shoulders but I would do it all over again.

Yea, as I'm reading this waiting to get my trailer loaded for the second time tonight... I don't think I'm gonna find a sweeter gig than this.

Are you than locked into p&d for a period of time if you wanted to switch back?

I'm sure I would be for at least a while. I gotta imagine losing/gaining a driver screws up the daily flow. I think I should just stick with what I got. I get the right amount of hours and the work is nothing compared to p&d

I know p and d drivers, who get paid 10-12 hours a day, but only actually work like maybe,4-5 hours.......
