ODFL | Tesla and OD

Wonder what OD's reasoning was just dismissing even testing the Tesla with the back of the hand... Looks like it could possibly be a game changer.

Can you think of a even hittier truck to deal with Wyoming blizzards? Bet this thing doesn't hit the road in a few years. Pipe dream.
Right... Although being in the middle of the cab might not be bad when the wind picks up.

I see a lot of cool features and ideas here. Trucking has neglected a lot of USEFUL technology in lieu of crap that works half the time for discounted insurance premiums. (CMS anyone?)

I'm still skeptical. If you watch the video of the launch they tout a 0-60 time of 5 seconds flat. That's faster than my car lol

will all have sleepers on them, that way you can go off duty while your at the charging station
According to their release none of them have sleepers at all yet. That huge thing you see is their version of a day cab with two passenger seats behind the driver.

A couple of things I think.

1. Center driver position.
2. Lack of charging stations.
3. Cost.
I'm not sure how center driving position would affect a decision on operating them( although admittedly it seems weird)
Charging stations could be at terminals or drop yards,500 mi range would cover a lot of Eastern runs. As I understand it a thirty minute quick charge (while taking break)can add another 200 miles of range making even longer runs possible.
You're probably right about this being a costly beast, as any new technology will be.
This may not even be the new thing(obviously our Sr. Management doesn't think it is)hydrogen fuel cells or something we aren't seeing out of left field perhaps will change the business. It was still suprising to see Dave Bates shoot it down so quickly..

So will there be a so called, shortage of "technicians ", or whatever a driver will be called now, to sit and monitor this thing going down the road? Wonder what he will do if someone hacks the controls of the vehicle while it is going down the road???

Center driving position would be difficult for city use. Being able to cut a corner by hanging out the window be impossible. Not to mention being able to see vehicles in bad weather when your mirrors are covered in spray. And I'm not doing anything but taking my lunch when it's time to take my lunch. Some of us need to use the tractor to get to a fuel station to use the rest room or get something to eat. And what if the charging stations have a couple trucks in line? Just waiting on 2 trucks to charge in front of you is a 1 1/2 hour delay.

Donna would love to hack into your truck to keep damages to a minimum...

Excuses, excuses, excuses, Ain't no wonder your goats filed for a C O O.

We need equipment that can be beat on because when that truck isn’t running at night it’ll be in the city during the day. Do you think we really want a 300k dollar tractor doing some of the stuff our current equipment goes through with all our cdl mill talentless drivers?

This ain’t some otr carrier.

Not everywhere works like your place. You're pretty much at the end of the chain. Our line equipment does relays during day and terminal runs at night(not unusual in the mid-west) that way we can put some miles on it before turning them over to the ham fisted city staffing.

Won’t be happening here, management already sees through this scammer. But you can drive one at hunt.

Just remember every Tesla sold comes with a non disclosure clause so you can’t write a negative review or talk about how crappy the vehicle is online. Who’d want to do business with a company like that?

The quicker start comes from torque. Electric has way more torque power. I have a hybrid that has a battery I charge to get about 20 miles then gas engine for rest of day. When its operating on the battery I can easily beat everyone off the line at a red light.
