Yellow | No money for the sheep

Trip you are right, except you can't count, dozens? try thousands!
This foot shooting started back in the early 60s, when we failed to organize Overnite and Bowman.
You’ve been retired too long if you don’t know that Overnite is UPS Freight, and Teamsters...

With what I am hearing first hand of problems at the regionals and their ability to operate profitably (and current lack thereof), they should reinstate full pay and pension to them and get them stabilized. That would curb their hemorrhaging of experienced workers. Then once they're back up on plane they could work on improving things with the nationwide division.
I hope they aren’t holding their breath....

Yep I know that, but back in 1962 we tried to organize them and Bowman from Gadston Ala.
Lot of hate and discontent, some of those guys were treated so bad, shot, rocks thrown from bridges who knows what else.
some of the reasons they didn't join.
Ryder actually covered the name on the front of our trailers after we had 2 shot, at night the red name looked like Bowman
and idiots shot at them.

Hemorrhaging of senior experienced workers is out of control , we lose a senior guy that can do 15 stops a day & get a new driver that can only get off 2 or 3 stops a day and then give them full pay after 30 days too !! YRCW and Holland are there own worst enemies !!

Evidently there are plenty of better paying jobs available in your area. Perhaps you should follow the leavers and pursue your own happiness.

This is the kind of stuff you don't see in history books. How strike-related violence so often hurt brothers and sisters instead of the company. It always saddens me to hear stories like this.

Back in the 30 and or depression ,The company's had there goons and we had ours.In some cases the goons worked for both sides, all for the benefit for a decent wage for working men and women.

Elwood , what a low IQ union response , You are missing the point here , NO Driver's Equals - No company !! So HOW does a company retain driver's and hire drivers ? It is with Money & Respect & less hours so you have a home life !!

Are you implying that they shouldn't tackle the problem at the regionals by restoring their wages and pensions? It would, no doubt, make a big difference.

From the quarterly reports,it looks like the regionals operate consistently better than YRC Freight as far as operating ratio, but have less gross revenue. The majority of unionized LTL companies have had operating ratios @ 90 and above for the last 30 years, and probably at 95 or higher in the last 10 years,on average. Operating consistently on a 5 percent,or less profit per year also makes it difficult to attract and keep top management people, and increase wages, and benefits for all employees, when you are basically trying to rebuild a company from the ground up,and also carrying close to a billion dollars in debt.

But to the public there are three different companies and having a bad reputation with all of them is not good. They could start small and move into the larger later.

I’m not missing the point.

Above all else, I am teamster proud.

I understand what you are saying.
I have discussed attrition extensively in the past. I have emphasized and projected the fate and future of our aging workforce ad nauseum.

What you are failing to address is your complete unhappiness, and fantasy belief that full compensation will be restored by standing strong.

With so many factors not in our favor, it is unrealistic to assume that we will be fully compensated any time in the near future, unless a broad spectrum of changes come to pass.

The only way I see improvement is returning to the Roadway model of EEFB, before our consummate knowledge is lost. Elimination of the management oligarchy that has failed to change with the times and address the financial, moral and logistical issues we face daily is imperative to our profitability.

Unrealistic expectations by certain factions of the bargaining workforce, as well as shabby work habits, are major contributors to our failures.

If your expectation is returning to full compensation, then it is also your responsibility to perform at the highest level in all aspects, as well as encouraging and demanding all around you to perform at such a level.

As much as you might fantasize, this ain’t your Daddy’s or your Mommy’s Union any more.
