ABF | Offer to help with quarterly reports to Wall Street

If the cubes went to areas that weren't too small for the 45' trailer with axles fixed at the rear or loaded and unloaded on roads where delivering the cubes makes me feel like a crow trying to pluck a squirrel meal out of the middle of a busy road I wouldn't care. I like diversity in my work. But I draw the line when my life is threatened by traffic or I risk a chargeable accident when driving to a location that I shouldn't be at. One lady was impressed that I blind side backed into her driveway sized street off of a road too narrow to even have any lines painted on it. The driver who delivered the cubes parked out on that narrow street and ran the cubes in. I told her that I wouldn't load or unload the cubes out on that street.

I saw you trying to back in that drive, you're lucky Billy was in the neighborhood and backed it in for you.

U-pack customers, especially the ones who request cubes, are in the dark I’ve come to learn. It would help us immensely if U-pack ‘central’ would ask some pertinent questions...like: “is your property accessible to anything other than an 8-legged baboon?”

We set up the ‘Cubes as a “ driver’s call” thing. If it was a busy road, then two guys with appropriate safety gear,........vests, flags, cones,......the whole shebang had to do it. One safety spotter and one operator.

Company never complained when that was my call. It was either that, or no delivery due to unsafe conditions.

But,......there were times when other guys took the ‘Cube trailer out, and........”created” .......a problem. Had a guy deliberately unload in a loose gravel parking lot with an off-the-dock tow motor. Immediately stuck ,.....for four hours. That meant that he couldn’t make it back for the food warehouse sort and segregate load.

Overheard him openly bragging about sitting in his cab reading hunting magazines for the hours waiting for a wrecker.........

I’m sure management.........and the senior guy who had to do the food warehouse..........heard him, too.......

Man I cant tell you how many times i had to pull out the forklift with the tractor. Drop the trailer hook a chain to the forklift, pull the forklift out if its hole, unhook chain, drive forklift 5 feet, pull truck closer to forklift, hook up the chain..... drive the forklift to a spot on the pavement that is about 3 thousandths of an inch low....drop the tractor.....

You had to regard each delivery as problem, and you are paid by the hour to solve it the best,.....and safest.....way.

Some guys rise to the challenge,.....some don't care to.

I always thought that ,...as Teamsters,....the (supposedly) highest compensated workers in the LTL industry......that we should act like we are,.....and do the smartest thing.
