What’s going on in the Carastadt area we’re hearing fos, managers quitting left and right any truth to the matter ? If so why are they ?

There seems to be a high volume of turnover in all levels of management....system wide. Or is this just the "new" normal ??
Yes it does seem to be a systemic problem for sure but I heard that region is particularly bad off and running amuck. Anyone have any particulars on this?

What you’ve heard is true. The region is a disaster. I think about 6 managers quit in the past couple of months. They’re putting too much pressure on the managers and they can’t take it.

That’s what we are hearing. I hope they can get this under control. Jacobs said in a recent interview that people were very happy working for this company this seems to throw dirt in the face of that.
I been watching the Ken Burns series on Veitnam war and I have to admit is spot on with what went down and it’s funny to watch the politicians and Westmoreland collaborate on presenting to the American people back at home how great the war was going . It always amazes me as to what lengths are Presidents and business leaders will go to market their plans . I guess it took many years till the truth came out on the war . I remember people calling the protesters all sorts of names and saying how wrong they were. I guess time has a way of bringing out the truth.

Something is not right and it goes deeper than transition from one company to a new. I think most at the management level are aware of it. As a group most will no admit it in others company but individually their scared and talking.

New normal. Been like this since we got bought. There are spikes. But really. It's all about people lining up other opportunities.

If they push our start times back and don’t give us a good raise I know a lot of drivers who will quit and go elsewhere. I heard after 1 year at FedEx top Pay is 29 and change.

Here we are talking about management. But you are right. Drivers are unhappy with the health care changes. Very unhappy with changes to the way paid time off is being used. And wages have not kept up with the competition. Not to mention the work environment and uncertain future.

Yes Service Center Managers are leaving. Brooklyn, Newark, Carlstadt, Farmingdale.... any more? Supervisors are getting cut. Who’s next? CSR’s? Dockworker’s? Drivers?

Drivers are next. Who the hell wants to start work at 10am when you been starting at 9 for years.. it’s like we are going back and not forward. Forward always...

Drivers in my area have been dealing with this going on 5 years now. When a new terminal manager started that was the first thing he did - adjust P&D start times down by an hour across the board. Never mind linehaul drivers arrival times and maybe fixing the late freight.

Let's do the easy thing ( which doesn't address the actual issue of why inbound wraps up late ) and start the city drivers on their peddle runs an hour later. Naturally , they get back later. Funny how that works.

Or the whole circle of life thing. If city drivers get back late, line haul gets out late, means they get back late and the city gets out late, so they get back late etc etc etc

Slow the system down.....extend the "circle of operation life".... no doubt would make most of the latest city starts around 9:30....and possibly create some more day L/H in certain lanes..... no wait forget the "more day L/H" who am I kidding....we'd end up with more "sub service".

What Con-way did to CF. XPO is doing to Con-way.

?? CCX was making money and was profitable. CF was choking on it's own debt. CCX agreed to take on the debt that CF had created in order to spin off and be a "free" company. After doing that, paying off that debt, and absorbing the lawsuit from Emery, they were free to do as they pleased. CF went back into debt because they did not adjust to the changes in the industry. XPO purchased a company that was operating in the mid-90's. Certainly has improved the operating ratio but in many cases, on the backs of the employees.

CF went back into debt because management made the conscious decision to run it into the ground.

I certainly wouldn't disagree with that. Their long-haul model was no longer effective with customers wanting freight in those lanes quicker and cheaper....especially with the LTL carriers that were starting to push into the market. Their restrictive labor agreement did not help them either but that only made the business model that much more ineffective. I'm sure all of us either worked at CF or new somebody who did.
