If you are ever in Hawaii, take the time to visit Pearl Harbor. It’s a very sobering and moving experience. Walking on the deck of the USD Missouri, and standing on the spot where the Japanese surrendered, was special.
December 7, 1941 will always be a special day of remembrance for my family. Long story short my father and his brother were two young sailors on the Arizona when it was bombed that day. My father was able to swim off the Arizona, he did occur some lung problems from inhaling gas an oil that was in the water but recovered from it. His brother wasn't as fortunate, he was down below in the interior of the ship and is one of the many who would be forever entombed on the Arizona. Over the past month I've been in correspondence with an author from Colorado. I've sent him some pictures and talked with him on the phone giving him what information I could on my father and his brother for a book he's writing. The name of the book he's writing is "Brothers Down: the USS Arizona and the Brothers Who Went to War", it will be published in 2019. The author has written several other books that I've seen so I'm looking forward for this one.
