SAIA | So Saia uses their cameras to enforce traffic laws?

Even at-will employees have protection against discrimination. And being terminated for something not all are subject to in my book is being discrimated against. But im no lawyer. Though i have played one on T.V.

WHAT!! you're not a laywer and claim to be a truck driver, this must be a first!
BTW, T V don't count.

Interesting stuff going on behind the seens in regards to enforcement of traffic laws by the company. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. Reminds me a little of the Ezekiel Elliott case in the NFL. Not guilty in a court of law yet he got suspended anyway.

The company will argue that the employee failed to obey all traffic laws. And by doing so, he is a unsafe driver that the company has to discharge because of high insurance rates. Or their Safe Score is effected by this employee who fails to obey all traffic laws. Or chose your sentence for the argument. Ask attorney Paul Taylor of Truckers Justice Center up in Minnesota. If a company want's to play hard ball & try to bury you, they will spend 10 bucks when they could have settled for 1 dollar. You paint a target on your back & they will take aim. von.

I agree!!! A total waste of time.

Does your visor block the sun in your eyes. Lots of black tape has made its way into the cabs. Might want to check the lens with your dirty oily fingers. Every time the camera supposedly recorded a infraction the little red light is flashing causing a distraction. Now I don't want anybody to get a letter of concern either.

Since these little cameras showed up at my company a few years ago I am a completely different driver now, because the companies new policy and procedures. Their not afraid to take action especially on somebody they might be targeting or just to make a example.

Drive safe and keep your record clean.

Anything that blocks the camera is considered obstruction and is a write up. Not saying it's right or wrong I'm just saying how they view it. Personally, the cameras don't bother me anymore because I'm use to them. They are annoying at times but why cry about something you can't change. Yes, I have cried and complained at times about them but I understand why the company has them so I adapt and move on. Despite all the negative perceptions about the cameras they do change negative driving habits and that's a good thing. If they help to save just one life then they are worth any associated cost IMO.

My assigned camera truck is a Volvo with a shop installed camera. They took the sun visor off the passenger side so that the camera view cannot be blocked.

Would that not be kinda unsafe with no visor on that side, you know early morning late evening with the sun setting down low

Another thing to consider is you can get caught on another truck's camera and I wouldn't put it past Safety writing you up for that infraction too.

I don't if this is true, but I was told two drivers got coached...for incident caught on video ( in yard ).

Anybody that runs HST knows about the bumpy railroad crossing and I can tell you, from first hand experience, more times then not that camera is going to go off. If you approach a camera truck and don't make a complete stop, with 4 ways going, then there is a chance that the camera truck will catch the infraction and, again, I wouldn't put it past the Safety Department writing you up for a bad safety incident. Do you feel lucky?

You wear shades, they can't see wear eyeballs are looking, its like playing poker. How about bringing your own dash cam? Just some food for thought.

There is going to be a new breed of personal dash cams coming out. They will record both sides, front and back, at the same time.
