ODFL | QUESTION???????? David Congdon.. GUYS LOOK AT THIS

If OD was happy with his 22 years, why don't they allow him to work the dock only? This won't help him, but @ ABF under a UNION contract, if you lose the right to drive say under a DUI they will let you work the dock on the bottom of the board, keeping your income & benefits intact. And in most cases, not all, if you lose you CDL thru a Medical where you can't pass the physical, you can still work until you retire. That is one thing the Local Union will go to bat for you to keep your job. Not always successful, but the hall does most of the time. And why give up a experienced employee with a good work history? A prime example of if he had been under a Union CBA a good chance his post never would have made it on to TB, because he would be to busy working to post it. von.

Did you ever think they can't let him operate a forklift because it's vision related? We've had two instances at my location where drivers have gone back to the dock just in this year. It's not always a union vs nonunion thing. I do wish him the very best and hope that he's back soon.

Von, years ago , we had a driver had his left leg amputated below his knee due to diabetes, the company went to bat
for him, helped him get a waiver, don't recall if this was I C C or D O T in those days.
He was allowed to drive two more years before amputating above his knee forced him to retire, only restriction he could not haul hazmat.

Kind of my point in my previous post. 22 years & they treat you like dirt. That treatment by the company against a good long time worker is exactly why unions were formed. Unions are down now. But they are like the economy, up & down. Right now most workers are happy. But, when that changes, & it will, then unions will become strong again. Until then, good luck, we gonna need it. von.

The problem is you have no clue this situation. If you were in Outlaws situation the company you work for would do the samething.A company can only keep your job for so long when you are on medical leave.

Well guys its over 5 months since I have been gone from OD. I miss it so much but I'm still fighting to get this changed . I have wrote a letter and prove from my eye doctors and other things as well to my President, US Congressman, Governor and the Senators plus the DMV Commissioner and OOIDA. I am now a member of the OOIDA as well now. So guys please pray for me and get this changed for me and my family so I can go back to work .. I have talked to Mr. Congdon and he said if I could get this cleared up I could come back to OD. Thanks everyone and be safe and think of our family members as well we all go though our day!

Sorry to hear what has happened to you that's very unfortunate. I hope you are able to get some kind of a resolution. OD doesn't offer some kind light duty stautes or insurance while this all gets hashed out? You would think they would be going to bat for a exemplary employee with 22 yrs. Have you looked for a different driving job? If so how has that gone?

'You would think they would be going to bat for a exemplary employee with 22 yrs.' Your statement of the company going to bat for a good employee is why I posted. Now days it seems it takes a good CBA to be treated like a long time trusted employee should be. A company is focused towards its share holders, NOT the employee that makes the dividends possible. Pay a employee a good wage with great benefits & you have a profitable company with little labor problems. Do just the reverse, & you have employees wanting to join a union, or their work performance suffers because they suffer less compensation & more expensive benefits. It is real simple, you really do get what you pay for. von

I wonder if I could have drove the straight truck? does anyone know if I could or not?
If it's a CDL straight truck then as far as rules and bureaucracy go it's no different then a tractor trailer. rules and bureaucracy wise a CDL straight truck is the exact same thing as a tractor trailer as far as CDL license, medical card, log books, weigh scales it's no different.

Hey guys one step closer to getting this overturn. Talked to the lawyer at OOIDA today and she said she felt good about this and hopefully getting this overturn soon. So hopefully ODFL will stand by what I was told and hire me back. I worried that I'm going to lose all my time that I had in and will have to start over. Keep your fingers crossed that this will all happen soon for me, Thanks again.
