We had a pre shift this morning and our center manager told us about the upcoming new DOT Drug testing. Then he said something that I thought was crazy. He told us that we need to inform FedEx about our medications were on. Has anyone else heard this from management?

Probably has something to do with this opiod craze.
Guess you should let them know if you're on strong painkillers.

They already have that information indirectly, or at least they have it in my state.
You are required to list all prescriptions on your DMV long form.

The DOT already has a list of prescribed meds for CDL holders that takes whomever has these meds prescribed out of service unless the family physician files the form stating that the driver has no ill effects from the med. The DOT also has a list of completely banned meds which forbids the driver from driving at all or a new CDL applicant from being approved. Some of these meds that come to mind are insulin, opiates pain killers, antidepressants and anxiety meds to name a few. Anyone renewing their Dot physicals Or obtaining a CDL Licence will potentially have difficulty renewing or obtaining a CDL because of some of the meds listed above. Anybody else have issues like this? I don't understand why Fedex would need this type of information but I sure would like to know. Class? Class? Anyone?

I am being told that the day is not to far away when a CDL holder will be some how be run thru a Script Drug data base. It will be done when you do your medical card.
With follow up with the prescribing Doctor .

Thank Obama.

This is part of the MAP 21 act. Federal mandated drug clearinghouse going into effect.

Read up here: www.fmcsa.dot.gov/newsroom/fmcsa-establishes-national-drug-and-alcohol-testing-clearinghouse-commercial-truck-and-bus

Like most policies we complain about, it's just FedEx trying to get compliant with the ever growing federal regulations.
I just read the whole thing and I don't get what's new. When you fail a test doesn't it already go on your record?
Also, what in the world does Obama have to do with it?

It was his bill.

Grab an ATA book for the TDC program sometime. It spells out a pretty good history of this industry. Who did what and when....

Here is a much more detailed description of the clearinghouse, if you're up for more reading:

The Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is new, and will require reporting. Currently it's only part of your employer record, although you are supposed to report instances of being place out or service for this to your state licensing authority. The clearinghouse makes it part of a searchable record, accessible (and required) by potential employers. Compliance Date: January 6, 2020

"Employers will be required to query the Clearinghouse and request drug and alcohol testing histories from previous employers until the Clearinghouse has been in operation for at least 3 years. After 3 years, employers subject to part 382 will no longer be required to request drug and alcohol testing histories from previous employers, except in the following situations. When an employer relies on the § 382.301(b) exception to the pre-employment testing requirement, the employer must meet all of the requirements, including verifying that the driver participated in the controlled substances testing specified in § 382.301(b)(2)(i) and (ii) and had no recorded violations of another DOT agency's controlled substances use rule within the previous 6 months."

Map-21 was signed into law by B.H.O.

The part that is new for Jan 2018 is the requirement for testing for four semi-synthetic opioids.

This is interesting legislation. They might want to consider the reason people might be on these anti-depression/anti-anxiety drugs is BECAUSE of the work we do.

With the clearing house , if you work for a company that goes belly up the failed drug/alcohol record will be available for any new perspective employer to review. Under the old way if the company went under the records went the same way !! All companies must immediately post the record even if you go thru the mandatory DOT program. This will help companies trying to hire you know that you completed all DOT requirements

Good thing we are med card exempt. Wong and I have been asked by the producers of Ice Road Truckers, to bring the "gold", north, and shoot a few episodes. I will have to be high when we do that....

Or you could recruit CF to sit in for ya. He don’t know much about wooden roads but he’s an expert on the ice roads from what I hear, eh!!
