Steering wheel holders take holidays too. If they're told they can't, sometimes they'll quit. We're not pack mules, there's only so many of us and we can't work seven days a week. Some of us have families.
Us old Vikings never had a problem with seven days a week when it was necessary. Our families knew the after Christmas doldrums were right around the corner and were understanding.

It doesn't work that way for everyone. A lot of the more recent drivers, for example, are from overseas. And they generally choose right around now to go visit family.

And personally, as a team driver, five days in the truck is plenty. By Friday all I can think about is how much I miss my own bed and homemade meals. And the ability to sit down on my couch and enjoy a cold one in front of the TV. To say nothing of the relative isolation.
