Sinclair, which is seeking to grow to 200-plus stations with a $4 billion merger with Tribune Media Co., joins several companies including AT&T, Comcast and Fifth Third Bancorp already pledging to give workers one-time bonuses of $1,000 once President Trump signed the bill -- something he did Friday before leaving Washington for the holiday.

Other companies including Boeing, Comcast and Wells Fargo planned other investments. Boeing said it would invest $300 million in its business including $100 million in employee training and education and $100 million as part of its "workforce of the future" initiative.

Broadband and pay-TV provider Comcast, which also owns NBCUniversal, said it expects to invest more than $50 billion over the next five years in its broadband infrastructure and its television, film and theme park businesses.

Wells Fargo said it would boost its employees' minimum wage to $15 per hour, up 11% from its current hourly rate of $13.50, once the law was passed.

In addition to its promised bonuses, Cincinnati regional bank Fifth Third Bancorp said it would also raise the minimum wage for its employees to $15.

They are cutting certain positions that are no longer in demand. This in no way is relevant to what's currently going on in the trucking industry. Trucking is growing at a rapid pace at the same time qualified drivers are in short supply. When you understand how this works you'll realize what we're worth.

i never said it was in any way relevant to trucking, but it Is relevant to the title of this thread. It’s about the bonuses AT&T is giving with their tax breaks....

Could you please post some stats. on this, I've been told my whole career, "truck drivers are a dime a dozen"

That's a shame that anyone thats in the industry would disrespect you like that. At the same time the need and desire for more consumer goods is increasing the desire for people to get into or stay in the trucking industry is decreasing. Those stats can easily be searched right here on the web. No reason for me to post a bunch of links that could easily be searched. I would be willing to bet geographic region plays a role in the driver pool. In areas where not many other jobs are available people will be more likely to suck it up and deal with the short falls of trucking. In other areas such as the northeast there are many good job opportunities in almost any field. I know guys at some of the warehouses that I go to that only make a few bucks less an hour than we do. When they ask me about driving I tell them how many hours it demands they say they would rather stay where they are and have a better work life balance. Most people these days want to be home at a set time everyday to watch there kids play sports etc. Can you blame them? We become somewhat used to the lifestyle of trucking but many people would never consider even local work that demands 12 hour days.
 
Why would anyone disagree that many of us deserve somthing like this? I, like many others bust my ass in the city 55+ hours every week for straight time. It would be nice if even just once they gave a little something extra.
I’ve said this many times: I DO NOT KNOW how they get away without paying OT. I’m guessing if somebody had the nuts to step up and contact the NLRB, perhaps this problem could be solved.
 
I guess I used the wrong words. It’s not that they ‘get away’ with it, it’s how it’s been allowed by the workers for so long.
Believe me I have tried.Majority of our drivers want you to keep mouth shut.They would rather get the hours than get cut on hours because of Overtime.I think we have been told so much by management that hours would be cut and more hired that employees are scared to say anything.Again,OD is a great company to work for.You just take the bad for the good around here.But,it is sad that we call ourself the premiere truck lines and they use the exemption to there advantage.Now if we were struggling would be a different story. Just keep drinking that green kool-aid boy's and everything will be Jolly.Merry Christmas..

This is perfect. I said it before, the people on top deserve their take. I don't mind working hard to help this company succeed. But I'm getting tired of being one of the guys that always stays out as late as they need helping them get their record profits and not really seeing a significant benefit. Step up and improve the ot policy. They do it in Washington state they can do it nationwide.

Got to move to Washington state driver. Unlike what corporate thinks, no one wants to touch freight anymore and we all get a good 50 hour average a week when things are busy. Only cats not hitting that are the dead weight. They’re sent home early since it don’t make no sense to keep a guy on time and half that can’t perform. A few months of that will pass by and they kick them to line haul.
