I’ve been curious about this for some time now. I’d like a rough idea of what city and LH drivers make in your area. Don’t want specific SIC’s posted, just a general area.

I keep hearing how we work for slave wages compared to other companies... curious to know if that’s true.
 
I’m at 28.30 a hour in Boston region. Which I don’t feel is quite where it should be, but doesn’t qualify for slave labor. It’s just a piece of the pie, equal parts are health and welfare which IMO is driving the mentality to toss that word around. And why years after Laredo there’s an Albany and probably another after that. $28.30 an hour not sure of line haul
 
OD, FedEx, and UPS Freight all making more than us in my area. Even Saia is starting drivers at $27.56 and 64cpm with verifiable experience. I don't know about slave wages, this is the best paying job I have ever had, but compared to the competition it sucks. If I did not have so much time invested I would quit. It's hard to give up 4 weeks vacation and I am only a year away from a 5th week.

I think they know that's what keeps us. Certainty, seniority, and vacation.
 
In this part of Fl we earn $25.97 a hour and 61.2 per mile. I run night linehaul. $97,500 two years ago. $98,000 This year. Got to figure almost every day is 13+ hours total. So $98,000 ÷ 52 weeks= $1,885 per week ÷ 64.5 hours ( average ) shows hourly rate of $29.2. Not slave wages but a damn bit less than northern drivers. However, I do not envy the rich and I do not pity the poor. Life is good here in Florida.

What are you paying for health and welfare? Apples to oranges, whip. I can’t honestly say what the monthly premium is to cover my family, but I’m guessing it’s around $1500 per month, of which I pay nothing for. Correction...paying $60/month in Union dues has me filing for bankruptcy every month. You do the math.

Yeah, and these are absolutely uncertain times. And they keep finding ways to steal our vacation and everything else from us. And your seniority ain't worth ::shit:: with sterlings back in the long lanes and city peddles that are nightmares. All seniority really gets you is a chance to pick your weeks first. And even then you gotta have the time banked. They have gone out of their way to eliminate any and every reason to stay. Any one with a brain is long gone. They left back when XPO bought this. Most of us left here now are just riding it out. Looking to get some unemployment and then a new job.

These last two weeks we saw a bunch more walk away. Management, mechanics, dock hands and drivers. This situation isn't that hard to figure out. Nothing is being hidden. No one is bothering to blow smoke up our asses. It's all blatant and right there for you and everyone to see.

They open this UPS expansion down the street and I think we might lose half of the drivers that we have here. The end is near. Even the reluctant, hard ass, company line to the death guys are talking about options and opportunities.

I’m not so sure about that, there’s still a lot of hard liners on here waiting it out. I hope for everyone’s sake things improve in this new year.

I don't understand that. Anything they're saving in depreciation or whatever the benefit is isn't worth forcing a top man to drive junk for 11 hours with new trucks in the pool.

We were told you don't necessarily have to have it in the bank now, so long as you have it by your time off. No one can be negative at the end of this year.

Not true. You've got to remember that things are different everywhere. Not all barns are struggling like yours. Someone mentioned there are 40-some TM jobs open, but note that's still only 15% of the total.

It's everyone happy at XPO? Obviously not, but a majority are. This room is a very small slice of the company that skews negative just like every internet opinion forum.

You're not sure about what's going on in my terminal ? Thanks for pointing that out. You are so clueless I don't believe you know what's going on in your own terminal. As if you even work in a terminal. But I appreciate you jumping at an arbitrary opportunity to contradict me for no reason or purpose. Your seven figure lifestyle has to be supported somehow.

As far as improvement. Well, he is going to acquire $8-$10 billion dollars worth of assets this year to sweeten the pot. And then near the end of the year XPO will be sold. And then in early 2019 XPO LTL will be sold. So if a driver would wanna hang around and see if he can survive all of that and weather or not it's better than before. Which, by before, are we talking now ? Or Con-way ? Or CCX ? Regardless. It might be better. Sure, it might.

Not true. You've got to remember that things are different everywhere. Not all barns are struggling like yours. Someone mentioned there are 40-some TM jobs open, but note that's still only 15% of the total.

My barn isn't exactly struggling. My whole region is struggling. Everywhere we run. Everyone I talk to. It's all the same. Where are you in XPO territory ? I don't need a barn. Just let us know what part of the country. I'd love to know where things are so rosey.

Not sure what your talking about I never referred to your terminal merely stated their is still a lot of hard liners on here maybe you were mistaken me for what Gene responded with when he says most are still happy in the company. I agree with most of what you said . I can assure you I work here. Although I’m off the rest of this week and glad I am with this cold.

I'd rather not. And really, it wouldn't matter- perception is reality. I'm happy. I look around and some people are grumbling, but they're staying. The company is making money. I've still got my benefits. Managers have left, and they've been replaced. I've seen new trucks and new trailers. Buildings in our area are in decent shape. I just don't see the sky falling. It seems like all of the evidence that XPO is heading off of a cliff is subjective and anecdotal. That doesn't necessarily make it invalid, but it can't be looked at in a vacuum.

I can't force you or anyone else to feel great about what's going on in your area or with the company at large, but I can provide a little perspective from the opposite view. That's the idea, anyway. Your perception is up to you.

I can say in the upper Midwest and plain states we are swamped. Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and u freight going west. We had extra runs all over the holidays.
