I’ve heard from a few drivers that they’re having issues with the CMS. One even asked how to turn it off. The issue is without anything around or in front of you, the brakes are applied. When applied, the tractor lurches to the left. This has happened to me personally coming off of the Fremont bridge, driving under the suggested speed limit. Another driver almost lost it, the glare off of the ice kept setting it off. Anyone else having issues similar to this. I’ve gone to the shop, I get the shoulder shrug. This was a concern for us, running in winter weather what this thing would do.

This device will not activate unless cruise is set.So my experience with them I have had no issue's.Again can't figure out how it would even trigger a event without the cruise being set.My advice would be to call Corp.safety or address your concern to your safety person

The system will indeed apply breaks if it senses an object not moving with a collision eminent. This will trigger with or without the cruise set. Mine picks up a bridge once in a while. Monitor goes red and an audible sounds, truck lunges left. This all happens in about 2 seconds till I clear the bridge. I've asked them to calibrate the sensors and I get the deer in headlights look. Has not happened in inclement weather so far.

Ump said it, hasn't happened in inclement weather. Now FBN, tell that driver to stop making gossip stories and give him the keys to a Volvo if he can't handle the truck of the future.

It will most definitely apply without cruise being set. We have a particular bridge coming back from one run, that 9 Times out of 10, cruise or not, whatever lane you’re in, it’ll get on the brakes hard. Our shop sent One guys truck to the dealer to have the radar adjusted, but it still does it.

Not sure then.I have not had any problems and I have tested several times and it has only activated when cruise was set.If the cruise is turned off it should not even activate. My suggestion is to talk to your safety director or call corporate.I did ask one of the guys in the shop and he did say there there has been several had seen that they had to have re calibrated.

When it has activated on my tractor, it’s done it with and without the cruise being set. I have gone to the shop foreman, he said he’s not allowed to do anything with them, as far as safety, hahaha. And Billy the guy’s running 84 are having problems with the brakes being activated. Maybe they say it’s not supposed to activate in cold temperatures, but it is. I’m just trying to see if other driver’s are having similar problems. I can see the benefits of the CMS, but I also see the possibilities of a newer Driver freakin out when it activates. The possibility of wrecking.

Then call corp.I have no clue how it would activate if the cruise is "cut off".If the cruise is on and you are not using I could see how it would still affect braking. But,if you have it cut off then I don't have a clue.No issues here.

Kenneth, it says in the video it will do this if it senses an object that is not moving in front of you, with or without the smart cruise on. The system is active at all times the tractor is in motion. Mine goes off on the same bridge when I'm in the travel lane as I'm cresting a slight incline. This particular bridge has a metal frame and I guess the radar hits it when I peek the hill and start back down. If I'm in the hammer lane I get a free pass. I've also noticed my speed affects whether or not it applies the brakes or just gives me the warning.

Fly, I posted before, back in 78 when we started dealing with the 121 braking system, Bendix Corp. assured us the system
could not malfunction and was foolproof, "It wasn't" after a year or two and several accidents, they disabled them.
Just remember, if it's man made, it can and probably will malfunction at sometime.
After reading Ump's post, I think his concern is his goats get carsick, when it malfunctions.

My freightliner would activate even when I was on the floor and not in cruise.

Man is definitely a fallible being. Anything designed and built by mankind will fail at some point. Let’s hope this CMS thing isn’t the ‘love-spawn’ of the 121.

Not True, I have had it apply brake in the city with no cruise on multiple times.

We’ve got a bunch of tractors that do this, overhead signs and overpasses will set it off even with the cruise off. It’s aggrivating at best, scary af at worst, and I don’t even run in an area with wintry weather... I think I would be driving a ‘17 or older for sure if I lived in snow country.

The frieghtliners don't seem to have as much problems with breaking as the kw's and Volvos. At least that is what I hear in my yard.
