Hello , I am looking for information regarding odfl rehire / ineligible rehire policy and if the policy has changed. I was employed as a pd driver for 4 years and voluntarily quit in 2006 with no crashes or negative marks other than quitting without a 2 weeks notice. I called human resources about 2 years ago and spoke with a gentleman who said he was second from top in human resources,I forgot his name.He confirmed I am on the ineligible list for rehire but could apply.I have been with my current ltl employer for over 8 years with no negative marks on my dmv/employee record . Thank you for any info you may give.

I would say it all depend's on who you are&if you burn'd any bridges.Never hurt's to try.Have heard of a few that have cameback..

I don't mean to hijack the thread by any means but I don't think it's worth starting a new thread for. Does Odfl have anything against hiring guys that are currently employed with a unionized freight company? Btw I don't have full tattoo sleeves, don't look like zztop, and I dress professionaly. Thanks

It may depend on region and the TM. That being said they do hire people that work or have worked for union carries. I used to work for a union carrier and there other guys i work with here that have worked for union carriers.

I know of a couple guys who have left for one reason or another and have come back. I don't know your situation but I think not giving notice might be a bigger "red mark" then a speeding ticket.

the no rehire policy is still the rule .checked lastweek.
I would love to go back to work ODFL but my old terminal manager had something against me. I resigned properly with a notice, and he assured me that I would be eligible for rehire. It turned out to be a total lie. He later said that the rehire decision would come from corporate and that they probably would rehire me not due to "flight risk." Total lies from his mouth. I worked with two drivers at the exact same terminal who quit and got rehired back-- at that same terminal. This same TM tried to block another ODFL employee from being able to transfer to another OD location in another state. This was discovered and the TM almost got himself in deep trouble for doing that. (That TM must have nine lives.) As far as I knew the guy who moved was a good employee. There was no reason for him getting treated like that. Watch who the TM is--always!

Odfl does not have a blanket 'no rehire' policy. And I also know of 5 drivers that were fired and then got their jobs back after they had a conference call with corporate.

It almost seems like they do. I’m currently with a union carrier and have applied there 3-4 times now when I’ve seen a line haul spot open just to see what they were offering. With 30 years experience and no accidents in the last 20, I’ve never gotten so much a call back. Go figure.

We had a guy marked ineligible from years ago who was recently rehired. All depends on the situation.
It definitely depends on the situation and /or terminal manager. My whole point for other readers is that there isn't any blanket rule that you can't rehire an employee and there isn't anything prohibiting the hiring of former union employees. Other drivers' experiences at my terminal and other terminals runs counter to these rumors.

I never got a call back when I applied here years ago. I then started calling in to the terminal. If you want answers call the terminal and speak to someone. I called once a week asking for a job until he finally broke down and hired me just to get me to shut up.

Also I am a rehire, it all depends on the manager, they do have a lot of discretion. I would start a conversation with the manager and go from there. However I did leave a notice.

Just goes to show how to actually get a job. I never understood people who filled out apps, never followed up, and then pissed and moaned about not being offered a job.

Last P&D came from FedEx line haul, numerous guys are from Yellow, ABF, other union shops, or competition carriers. I still got a teamster card somewhere??. Was once with ABF. We have added to line haul positions. Know terminal manager called a guy couple weeks ago, who had family issues that had him leave 2 years ago. His present position works best for him now, yet let him know he would be welcomed back.
