If OD was happy with his 22 years, why don't they allow him to work the dock only? This won't help him, but @ ABF under a UNION contract, if you lose the right to drive say under a DUI they will let you work the dock on the bottom of the board, keeping your income & benefits intact. And in most cases, not all, if you lose you CDL thru a Medical where you can't pass the physical, you can still work until you retire. That is one thing the Local Union will go to bat for you to keep your job. Not always successful, but the hall does most of the time. And why give up a experienced employee with a good work history? A prime example of if he had been under a Union CBA a good chance his post never would have made it on to TB, because he would be to busy working to post it. von.
Did you ever think they can't let him operate a forklift because it's vision related? We've had two instances at my location where drivers have gone back to the dock just in this year. It's not always a union vs nonunion thing. I do wish him the very best and hope that he's back soon.
