Have you ever used the handhelds to make a phone call?

If you have , you know they all have the same area codes for somewhere in Washington state ( I think )

Is it asking too much for local area codes? Some customers AUTOMATICALLY think it's a scam when you call ( or bill collectors ) and immediately go to being hostile when these strange non-local phone numbers pop up.

Now that companies have switched completely to electronic logs , can you notice a difference? At XPO , peddle drivers seem to be holding off on their lunch until 7th or 8th hour then take lunch to avoid outbound.

well had someone call and say they are from the IRS called them back and told them to come get me.
When I was in the city even if you left a message they didn't call you back but when I called on my phone they answered on the 2nd ring

see less LH driver sleeping on the side of the road.
saved me about 10mins per day to complete my paper log
I know the city guys love it because now when they work past 12 they don't have to fill out a paper log. just off duty on the HH punch out and go home

I use the handhelds to make calls all the time. Last time I used my phone, the customer called me at home to complain about something. I also like knowing the company has a record of the customer says I didn’t call or other nonsense.

There are 25 safe stack bars in a trailer. They are made out of aluminum , mostly. After about a year 20% - 30% of the bars are messed up. After three years , total disaster as far as the being able to use the bars.

I wonder how much it costs? Is it cheaper to fix or just ignore and get new trailers? Throw away trailers. Trash and repeat.

And why does XPO Logistics/Con-way get rid of or stop making trailers that let light in. They used to have trailers with fiberglass tops ( peddle vans ) and recently pups and peddle vans with portholes along the top sides to let light in.

Now , it's zero outside light getting in an it's like walking in a cave. It couldn't have been that expensive to cut a few 3 inch holes for light in the trailer.

How about your hearing after about 20 years. The decibel reading that some guys recorded on our dock was over 100, osha I thought they said was 87

The reason I wear earplugs. Was told to take them out. Told them I will file a complaint with osha for exceeding decibel requirements, which would make the company pay for testing every terminal. I’m still wearing earplugs.

I see lots of drivers wearing them.

We had a few guys start wearing them and safety said they couldn't. Kind of ironic. OSHA should be involved in the issue!

As far as the earplugs go , there are terminals that order them and distribute them to the drivers. No issues whatsoever.

Believe it or not ours was told not to because of the number of forklifts running up and down the the dock with very little room to maneuver and in and out of trailers. I guess maybe because we have or have had a lot of guys that jut load. I guess they were thinking about not getting run over verses your hearing.

I would love to see OCHA and XPO get involved with the cell phone use. Everybody rides around now with hoodies on talking to themselves, I can’t imagine riding around in 100 degree weather with a hoodie or a wool cap on just to talk on the phone all night. We have a guy at out barn Who hooks and drops trailers while screaming at the top of his Lungs in a funny language all night long.Someday I’m going to videotape it and put it on YouTube LOL. If I ever get hit by a Fork truck while the guys on the phone, well looks like I’m going to win the lottery.
