Hello, I would like to drive linehaul for Old Dominion. I am taking CLP tests next week.
In a separate thread, it was mentioned (by OD employee) that at least for the State of Washinington is an example of CDL school that sends grduates directly to OD for linehaul. (cdstruckschool.com)

Does anyone know of an equivalent arrangement for California CDL school?

I am aware that OD has their own school in which they only train their inhouse dockworker employees after 1 year working the docks.

So I am looking for anyone to chime in who is familiar with Old Dominion in California hiring directly from an California CDL schools. (In the example above, the independent school is in Washington, and only takes students with Washington state drivers licenses)

Thanks in advance

I would call up the biggest terminal in CA and ask them.

Ain't no CDS grads getting behind the wheel of a line truck to wreck on the pass right off the bat. They're put in the city and once they show they're not worth a damn, then they get booted onto line and given a pair of sweat pants to help handle the job.

What size sweat pants does Fly wear?
Ump said he may have some hand- me-downs.
New guys will need to prove themselves before getting Umps old pants.

You forgot a brick so that they can speed through the yard.

Didn’t you hear? Sweatpants are the new uniform. Yep, saving some money there. Black with the OD logo. Billy your friend there was just modeling the new OD fashion statement.

As far as I know. All California trainees get sent to Rialto for truck school.Even from here in SAC.Not sure what they need to do before that.Just know that the class is in RTO.

Here’s what I don’t get, city driving takes a hell of a lot more skill then cruising down the interstate. It would make more sense to prove yourself on the highway before they let you do a peddle run in a tight urban area with pedestrians, bikes, all kinds of traffic, really tight turns and tons more obstacles not to mention the array of impossible docks.

Oh good lord... Just what we need, another "my job is harder then your job" guy.

Pffft. Please. Nobody's job is harder than mine..running Coop Dispatch with an errant, bridge destroying, boardwalk breaking team and a Geritol, nap taking, recliner sitting team.......I'm not even sure they're back from their first trip..and an errant goat shepherd of a love child who disrespects me and my boots...and Hat....

Hahahaha. That’s some funny stuff. Let’s not forget shade trees, convenience stores, Mickey D’s, amongst other things. Then also explain to me why when City uses a line tractor they come back with curbed tires, broken fairing, smashed bumper, broken CB antennas, bent mirrors. Billy is the only one that works hard in the City.

Cmon Fly, we see right through your little scheme, spring time, when the grass is green, your partime will be sitting on one of
Billy's zero turns.
Next, you'll be cleaning his WS.

Curbed tires, broken fairings, smashed bumpers, broken antennas and bent mirrors, is exactly what happens when you have a line driver work the city. Takes an experienced city driver to get the job done and keep equipment in tip top shape day in and day out.
