Trucking fleets are charging higher prices to move freight around the country. But it is an open question whether the companies or their drivers will reap the windfall.

With the economy humming, retailers and manufacturers are looking to hire thousands more trucks to haul clothing, construction equipment and other goods. Trucking companies can choose which loads to take on. In December, the most recent month for which data is available, carriers charged an average 22% more than they did a year ago in the spot market, where shippers can hire trucks on short notice, according to DAT Solutions LLC.

We will disagree? I'm shocked I tell you, shocked!!

PS - Wong, every generation has had its quota of "slugs".

Oh no Dave, it looks like you actually hired children!!

"Adulthood now begins at 24, say scientists as young people delay work, marriage and families."

Daughter got her first ‘real’ job at 14 after babysitting for two years and son got his first at 11. Never had to give either of them allowances. There are plenty of people of ALL ages, I have worked with that have sloppy work ethic.

BTW, I’m all for putting off adulthood as long as possible. It ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Boy am I confused, I thought deregulation would make freight rates next to nothing.

You're right about those adulthood years, plus when you reach these "Golden Years," you may find some to be just tarnished copper.
My son and daughter both have good paying jobs, I was thinking about asking them for an allowance.

I ain't got much icing left!
Lol. But I'll eat it sparingly.
Obstacles are always placed at points in life.
Just never know when and how hard you'll trip over them.
Agreed.
