FedEx Freight | Vacation Bidding

Just to clarify, the policy on response time for vacation requests (24/hrs) does not apply during the bid process. It applies to simple vacation request forms, separate and apart from the bid process.

Yeah I knew that after looking at policy online. We're on pace to be done in March, still on the 9th guy in city. I haven't chose who to call, because I think hr will be a waste of time. I tried to do a suggestion form on the intranet, but after typing a book the dam thing wouldn't let me submit it for some reason. Lol

You have someone in charge of the road and one for the city. At our center, we are given a call block to call in for our vacation. Two weeks in prime time and two weeks off prime time. If you miss your call block, you are passed over until you call in. It takes about a week to cover 50 road drivers. And your call block is within range of your schedule.

As it should be. No drama queens holding the whole board hostage.

At our barn the 10 or 15 take all the summer weeks. Then when that week comes up they decide not to take off. Our manager won't put that week back up for bid. The top guys laugh while us bottom of the board guys can't take our families on a summer vacation. Was told by the #3 guy "I'm not going to let a guy below me have a chance for a summer week. I never had a chance at a summer week till I had been here 15 years. So screw u bottom guys." We have complained all the up to the regional manager and all we are told is" It's there option take the week off or give it back."
My solution was start from the guys who didn't have a chance at a prime week and bid it. Or if driver doesn't want to take off they still get charged 40 hours of vacation.

Certainly a valid concern. When a bid week is later declined, it should be made available publicly. First to anyone previously declined for that same week, IMHO. That is why it is always a good idea to keep that copy of any request that is declined.

Of course when the party involved waits till the last minute to "change their mind", it leave little or no recourse, or opportunity, beyond being lucky enough to find out... We can only hope that Karma evens the score...

I could have Big Dave come over to the terminal, and put his hat over the buttheads car, so when he comes in to go home, he won't be able to find it, and have to call Uber?

Man you all have some P.O.S. drivers at your center.

This is how it should be at every center they need to make a new policy.

"Afraid Not! Uber has been purchased by YRC"
Vactaions have been canceled by all LTL carriers, with the exception of Coop Dispatch.

In my barn, there was once a horse's ass who was number 1 for a couple of years, he would book every major holiday, then cancel a week in advance and tell his butt pirate bottom of the board buddy only, who would then get the holiday. I had 30 years in before I could get christmas off. When I became #1, I told the junior drivers I'd take either christmas or turkey day, not both. I work with the lower drivers who have family so they can actually get a holiday to make their wife happy.

I'm such a jerk for doing that. As further info, we're an end of line domicile with 11 road drivers.
