Just look at the truck accident threads on TB, and after reading the article on each crash, you can pretty well see, a lot of these are caused by doing something else while driving...

My old truck was either rigged or something. Everytime I picked my ph up(and the glare showed on the windshield)it activated the camera. No lie! The know who to watch.Company said it's only on when a event triggers the camera. Damn liars!!
In the long run they did him a favor. I bet he will collect unemployment if he wants. If he has a good safety record, someone will hire him before the week is out with a bonus in the process. von. This is true. A road driver out of EBO was investigated for the reflection of a device. It was caught by safety while reviewing an event that was recorded. He ended up being terminated for "lying" during the investigation.
Way way beyond funny. von.You mean like cleaning your windows with a beaver?
A good friend of mine was wrote up for picking up his cell phone while driving. It was caught on camera. He was called in the office to watch video and they showed him where the camera picked up his reflection in the windshield. True story. No B.S..
My wife is a police officer who will be retiring Feb. 28, 2018. She has lived with all of the changes in the trucking industry because I was with THURSTON/YELLOW/YRC for 38 years, IN THE PAST 5 years, she pulls over 1 to 2 drivers a week. The good news is, she just tells them what they are ding is illegal, and let's them go with a warning. She tells them she is married to a driver. She said the worst trucking companies she sees daily are Averitt and Fed-Ex. I gave her no info on that, she just used her daily sightings to make that accusation. BE CAREFUL DRIVER'S.
If the warning is verbal, that's one thing. FedEx takes a written warning equally as seriously as a actual citation. My wife is a police officer who will be retiring Feb. 28, 2018. Anyone who rides down the road holding a phone to their ear deserves the ticket IMO.My wife is a police officer who will be retiring Feb. 28, 2018. Think you need to read it again....lol.Congratulations on the young wife. At least that's what I got from this word problem.
I don't believe these are the situations they are keying in on at all. We were shown several videos this summer that clearly showed the drivers in question placing the phone back on the dash or even typing into the phone. Honestly it was pretty clear that the act of being on the phone itself was what triggered the record event. Your phone simply sitting idle on the dash is not going to spark any problems in my opinion. However, with that said one of our drivers recently had a teleconference with our regions safety director. Not sure if it is like that everywhere but here you have to call the district safety guy for something as small as ripping an airline to be belittled on the phone....ridi ridiculous but worthy of a whole other thread. Anyway the guy was basically baiting him to admit he was or uses his phone. He did not obviously admit to it after which the safety guy said if I can prove anyone is on the phone I'll fire them on the spot. So beware .......These cameras start recording when the ignition key is turned to the on position or on accessory.
But are not viewed unless something sets a trigger event off or if they are given a reason to watch a recording like someone calling complaining they were cut off by you, etc.
Now that refection of a cell phone being on was during a trigger event that took place which does not show the driver on the phone, just seeing it on. They also saw the intermec light screen on too.
Now if I have my phone charging on top of the dashboard when it reaches full charge the screen comes on, so with that said this could have been the situation at hand since it only showed a reflection of the cell phone light was on, not the driver holding it.
