Wondering how the adventurous driver thought that being on a VAST EMPTY FLAT LAND he would not be noticed going off road for "mechanical difficulty"?

In North America we have some "drivers" that have taken and will take out Historical Structures, Bridges and Monuments, so why not in other parts of Our World?
