ABF | ABF Negotiations Open

I think most people are already putting away close to 15%. If I remember correctly, Social Security taxes are about 7% and the employer puts in another 7%, I think. The only problem is the government gets their grubby hands on it and sooner rather than later no one will see anything from it. I could be mistaken on that but I'm pretty sure I'm correct.

I think I’d rather trust the government than put my complete faith in big business/Wall Street........

I mean, if I had a choice..........and for no other reason than that I can vote on who’s in the government.

Nobody has ever asked me to vote for a CEO.....

I know when I first came here I asked a fellow driver about the 401k and he looked at me like I was crazy. His response was don’t put ::shit:: in 401k that’s why we have pension. I thought well, you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. I made 12.5% on teamster 401k this year. I hope pension is still there, and I hope social security is still there, but I am gonna do my part to make sure I have some money also

What you’re doing is wise. You don’t put all the eggs in one basket. There are problems.....possible longevity problems ........with all retirement vehicles,......

Mainly because there are business groups and bank groups who have a vested interest in ruining one plan or another.

and you're naive enough to think your vote counts??? OMG that's funny!

Yes,......I am. I am an unregenerated optimist who believes the best in my fellow men.

I believe most people are a lot smarter than they pretend to be.......

I believe cynicism is cultivated by a tiny, wealthy, minority who wish that most people believe their vote won’t count,..........so that the votes of that tiny, wealthy minority would be the only ones counted.......

Who was it that said “ All it takes for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing....”?

When the business agent says, "We need strike authority, and we don't have time for ballots to turn around via mail, just sign on this yellow legal pad and print beside it and the last 4 of your SS#. If you don't want to strike, just don't sign it." Across the top is written Strike Authorization against TMI with the date and local #. Well, nobody at that meeting is walking out without signing, and you know the shi# is bout to hit them blades! That's what happened at Local 991 in 1994. If they mail you a ballot, the answer is Yes, and they will keep mailing them until they get the correct answer.

AND, if it ain't a significant difference, I will just sign the legal paid with the last four of my social...hear that, Judy??

Well....we probably need to mail a ream of legal pads to Mr. Hoffa....seems they have ran out? But, the point is...they call for a strike it seems....only if it benefits them....and we only go on strike...when they want to...in my opinion

Thank you for the compliment,......I also "seem" wildly handsome"...and "wittily urbane"...in some circles.........But that would merely be the Opinion of my sycophants.......

The stock market under President Obama had slumped to 7,949 on Mr. Obama's Inauguration day, due to the collapse in October 2008 and the beginning of the Great Recession.........remember that?

Mr. Obama's first year in office saw a 22.6% increase in the stock market,....as opposed to Mr. Trump's 20.7% increase in his first year. Look it up....

When Mr. Obama left office on January 20, 2017,....the stock market had closed at 19,732,.....an 11,783 point increase.

If you had "invested" your 401(k) money RIGHT AFTER the collapse of 2008,......you'd be a millionaire probably several times over,...the day before Mr. Trump was inauguerated. Unfortunately, just about everyone lost about 3/4ths of the "value" of their 401(k) in the Great Recession,......
Mine id doing great, looks like a correction this week but I have some funds indexed with the S&P. Since Trump was sworn in I'm up 44% my funds did nothing like that with Obama at the helm.

Best thing I could ever do was get out of a union pension & fend for myself. It is not for everyone some sheep need someone to do everything for them... But that's fine.....

After seeing the shape of the Teamster Pensions it may make 2008 look like a vacation. Their greatest hope is some welfare from taxpayers... Unfortunately that will not happen........

"Canary, I think your post is pretty much on target, however, I'm still out on your second sentence."

What was the manner in which you ‘got out’ of the Pension plan, puff? Did your employer decertify? Close the doors? If you were in over 5 years, there will be something for you. Yes, 2008 (and beyond) was a rough year(s) for some plans. The CSPF is having problems. The Western Conference is doing quite well, which is the plan I’m in (25 years now). And like you, I’ve diversified my retirement contributions to avoid the ‘all eggs in one basket’ scenario.

I stopped working for companies, became self employed and grew a business. Once on my own I ended my reliance on someone else to provide my retirement. Best thing I ever did...

And the smartest move you ever made financially. It’s never smart to put all your eggs in one basket. Diversification is the key.

Time to stand tall & stay strong and time to stop being played as a SHEEP !! It's time to pay full rate !!

As most know I’m extremely anti-union but for once I agreed with this statement. It’s time to make a stand. You guys must call ABF’s bluff and make no mistake that will bluff. You do have leverage because if you strike they will lose millions in market share to the competition. It’s a double edged sword that has risk. But IMO it’s a risk worth taking this time. You have sacrificed enough. And enough is enough.

As most of you know, I'm extremely pro-union, and the fact that you guys took unnecessary concessions in 2013, and the company is claiming you need to take more in 2018 when the economy is booming is unconscionable.

Sorry, I thought we were just making introductory posts.

Hi, my name is LTLAnonymous and I'm an idiot.
