Estes | New rumors!!!

$35 doesn't sound like a lot, but when you figure (conservatively) 500 drivers a day, that adds up to over 4 million dollars a year.

I know that layovers will always be a part of this, my only point in bringing this up is to say there are definitely some efficiencies to be had if management would use the tools we have more effectively.
I agree 100 percent, I am hearing that they want better on Time deliveries percentages
That's not going to happen with the System they have now. A Xtraboard Driver dragging in at 10:00-11:00 does not work trying to get Driver's out on P&D

Even with the current extraboard system, waiting until a load is closed to call a guy at home or from the hotel is time lost. Very seldom do they look ahead and see they're going to have extra loads available in a few hours and alert a driver on break to be ready. "Call back in a couple hours" is the script when your 10 is up. Repeat a few times.

Yea I call into my terminal on Monday night and told to come in at 11pm but can’t be dispatch until 1am because they are still loading trailers. Some of these dock workers just drag out their hours and then we get to terminals and everyone is all upset thinking an extra board driver is the one that’s late. Put dock workers on performance based pay and then things will change.

The whole system needs to be revamped, If you want next day service you cannot be picking up freight on the street at 7:00 pm a hour away from the terminal. Cut times mean nothing if they are not enforced. They are terrible at projecting freight volumes and how many Driver's they need in a given night.

Yea that’s so true. They don’t turn nothing down at all. Having city drivers picking up a trailer load from multiple shippers all wanting next day service isn’t going to work out all the time or even 50% of the time. But most of the shippers or the locations it’s going to don’t say anything because the company is giving them good prices.

Hard to care when it's not yours!
Just saying
Sounds like a dock worker as he's trying to smash the last skid or two into the trailer.

It kills me when it's over a hour past my cut time yet dispatch still puts me out on time. Nothing beats pulling into a terminal and having an angry driver complain how long he's been sitting there waiting for your trailers.

When is that peoplenet dispatch stuff supposed to start rolling out?

Who knows, you keep hearing different things from every manager and dispatcher

We are given way to much time to move the loads from point A to point B. So we are put out on time even though we are late because dispatch knows we make it up on the road. As long as no accountability exists, nobody cares except the customer and the driver getting the short end of the stick.

What area you out of?? Cause when I spoke to a few different drivers they said that they share their truck with no one else.
I'm in the Midwest and I don't know any other terminals that don't share tractors. We actually just started assigning tractors at our terminal a few years ago. We do have some runs that are assigned a tractor without a second run added but that tractor will get used on the extra board when not being used. You may swap with another linehaul or city it just all depends on the schedule.

Oh ok cool. I appreciate the update information.

Word is ABF is going to make a high enough bid for the company that the stockholders will approve of the sale. If true, you might wan't to buy some stock before the price goes up. von.
